Does anyone know what type of steel is used to make vehicle leaf springs? I have a "handmade" rather large knife that appears to have been made from a truck spring. It "seems" to be similar to 1095, but much softer than the 1095 usually used in blades.

It was acquired many years ago from an Asian gentleman who had no further use for it.

Older springs may have been 1095. I forget what they are using now, but it is still very similar to 1095.
Most Asian knives that were made from springs were not hardened and tempered for knives, but ground cold and left at spring temper. Examples of this are often seen from the Phillipines.
