Spring Turkeys and Buck 110

Ya know, I took the two dogs [Weim & Dobe] for a ride today, and we saw a turkey walking in the field next to the road...so I slowed down so the dogs could bark at him...and he started to fly away!!! Low and clumsy, maybe 50 feet at a time, but he flew!!!

From watching WKRP in Cincinnati, I thought turkeys couldn't fly!!! (There was an episode where Mr Carlson hired a helicopter and bombed a shopping mall with live turkeys)... :D

So now I've seen turkeys fly!!! What's next...pigs???...

Nice looking turkeys!!! :cool::thumbup:

How do they taste compared to domesticated/food turkeys???

BTW: What'd you shoot them with???

Well Trax, these are young Jake's .They were from Last springs hatch.
They will be very tinder .But they are a little different from regular
turkey like we have at thanksgiving. They taste more like :DChicken.
A friend put together a 6mmBr remington for me on an old
722 remington action. The barrel is ss and untapered, was and old bench
rest 6x223 hart barrel.It shoots real good,even for me.:D
It has taken several Turkeys and a deer or two in the last 10 years.

Looks like a good hunt Jeff!!!!:thumbup:

I hope you saved some for me. Trying for Thursday to head out there.

Dave, Turkey don't like to fly. They will but don't like to. Will run if they can and are pretty fast on their feet. But will fly over fences if they have to, and if in danger, as well as going to roost in their favorite tree or trees.

They do nest on the ground and is one reason many of us keep traps set for coon, possum, and a few other critters that feast on the turkey and quail eggs.

The ones Jeff and I hunt are the Rio Grande variety, not getting much over 25 pounds as adults.

J.B. Thanks for the kind words. We only saw one gray hog.But he
did not want his pic made.
The Buck 110 did a great job bresting out all 4 Jakes.
Jeff

Wh4f Jim, Yes in Texas you can hunt Turkeys with a rifle. We have
a lot of wide open spaces here.Bock 110 to cut them up with.;)
Jeff

MessyIt's just an old remington that my friend made a Fun Gun out of.

EEE, You are right .That 110 is just the thing for bresting the Turkeys out.I will ask the boss,,,,Wife she is the turkey fry lady.:D

Pack Rat, Larry . Don't worry I can safely say that ther are several
old long beards left. That are smarter tham me.:Dgood luck.
Jeff

I didn't know you could eat peacocks. Those don't look like turkeys we have here in the east. Those are peacocks right?
