Hey guys I am still looking for a carry gun  I was almost set on a S&W wheel gun when my local dealer shows me a Springfield XD Pistol in 9mm. Man, this is a sweet little gun! Its about the size of the Glock sub compacts, I did notice that the slide looks a little taller than a Glock. I like this gun due to the fact that it has a safety and the gun won't fire without the magazine in place. My dealer is selling the 9mm for $499.00. Does anyone know anything about these guns or own one?

I am a die-hard 1911 fan, but a friend of mine who is a police officer, licensed gunsmith, ex-gunshop owner, and certified Glock armouror (sp?) has recommended them to me strongly.

I personally am not a 9mm fan, but the XD has a good rep.

I have a 9mm XD and I'm very impressed with it. You can find out more about them at hs2000talk.com. It has a few things that Glock doesn't, like an ambi mag release, and what seems to me a lighter than 5lb trigger. $499 sounds steep though, I used to see them in OH for $350-380 new.

Love my XD - HARD to beat the size, the features, the price and the trigger. BLOWS the Glock away and is SO small (I have the sub compact) that you can actually conceal it if you need to. Please ask any questions of us and we can maybe answer them. I second the suggestion of going to the hs2000 forum - great info, but like ANY dedicated forum - it will be biased. Double sheck their ideas at "thehighroad.org" web site.

I had a f ullsize XD40 for a few months, I sold it because it had pretty poor finish. I was going to use the XD as my duty sidearm but the finish was not holding up very well with repeated draws and reholstering. I wish Springfield would come up with a better finish on the XDs, if they did I'd buy another.

Springfield has now offered the XD with a stainless slide. This should make the finish wear issues disappear.

I debated between the XD9 and a Glock 17. I ended up renting both at the range and both guns were perfect. I chose the G17 in the end because of it's reputation for reliability and the availability of aftermarket parts. I have not regretted the decision and my G17 has been flawless. The XD is still a great gun and a lot of the decision is just personal taste. I don't think the XD9 is better than a Glock, but it is still an excellent choice. The next 9mm I buy will probably be a stainless service XD9.

Thought I would update everyone on my gun adventure. I will be getting an XD Subcompact in 9mm next week. My cost is $429.00 total.

Allegedly, you can use the XD 40 mags as hi-caps for the XD9...! I read it was legal too, due to the fact you don't alter a factory mag and it feeds what it is intended to. Dunno if you are aware of this, but I thought it was pretty neat. :)

I did not know this about the mags I may buy 1 first to try it out. As far as a stainless slide, I'm not sure which route I will go. I will more than likely buy the blued finish.

I have an HS2000. It will fire without the mag. I like it better that way.

I have heard a lot of people recommend the stainless slide because the finish on the black one seems to wear quickly.

I'm with STW. A magazine disconnect is not a plus in my book. I like the ability to shoot the one in the tube while I'm reloading. Just in case... I know it may be far fetched but... I disabled the magazine disconnect in my Browning Hi Power. It was the only firearm I owned that had a magazine disconnect.

I am sending my sub9 off to CCR Refinishing next week to have him do a green (like the HA green of SureFire lights) on the slide, the barrel black, the magazines (don't know what color yet) and the internal parts the HA green as well. The finish he puts on them is a lubriacting type of finish and is guaranteed to prevent/resist, etc rust.

I will post pics when I get mine back - cannot wait!

I love all three of mine 2,XD-9's 4", & XD-9 sub compact

I went with the stianless upper on my new ones had a black upper on a 5" .40 cal & it got surface rust on it like crazy but it wiped off pretty easy.

Both of mine shoot point of aim right out of the box, first time in a long time I was zero down at a IDPA match!!!! :D

Possible yes, but not a good idea for carry. there are some reliability issues with doing that.

I have yet to read anything bad about XD's, except that I don't have one.

One friend of mine has a XD in .40 cal. and he really loves it. Another has the XD in 9mm and hates it (not because of the gun because of the cal). As for the magazine question yes it does work and yes it is illegal. By putting a magazine that was not intended for the gun into said gun; hence increasing it's capacity, you are altering the firearm as the federal government sees it. I do however still recomend the gun for its functionability within the law. The gun does manage to perform well under almost any condition. If you live by the coast do not buy this gun unless you feel like leaveing it in a vat of lube while not in use because it will rust badly. I will recomend a different cal. though. The 9mm offers no balistic advantage over the other two calibers that the gun is offered in. The only firearm that I own that is 9mm is the gun that gives me my name (MP5) and the only reason that I have that in 9mm is because of the fact that 9mm is very cheap and while in full auto I really go through rounds. If I were you I would go with the .40 cal.
