Sprint numbering?

If you're seeing a number on a Sprint Run knife, it's Collectors Club number and it will end in a V, because Sprints are always variants of an existing model.

how does one become member?
Money, lots and lots of money. To join you have to buy all knives they have in that number, expect to drop at minimum $1000 just to be able to buy a couple back models (at full MSRP) and it could be much much more depending on when the last member dropped out. You also have to buy every single knife they put out.

Where are you getting your information?

AFAIK, Spyderco does not force anyone to purchase "back models" and, if a dealer wants to force you to do that in order to have an account with them, then your best bet would be to find another dealer.

As for per-unit cost, most, if not all of the dealers who are willing to service Collector Club accounts charge the same discounted price as they charge other customers for non-numbered knives. There may even be one or more out there who offer an extra discount, since they're assured of your business.

Annual cost can definitely get expensive, even at the lowest membership level where you are only required to take the "base" version of new models rather than every variant of every model since Spyderco has brought out at least ten new models each year for the past few years. As for the higher levels, the number of variants released some years has been mind boggling. As an example, I think there were 19 variants of the FRN UKPK pretty much released all at once - drop point and leaf blades each made in 3 colors, with plain, serrated, and combo edge versions of each, plus an orange serrated sheepfoot version.

Anyone interested should really contact Spyderco, since some things may have changed over the past four and a half years, but you can get a basic idea of the levels here.

I've read it in several threads about the CC, this is just the first link I found on google in 30 seconds of searching, I've seen the same info posted here numerous times and will look a little more later when I have time.

Ok, so you based the idea of having to purchase back models on a 14 year old thread. While that may have been true 14 years ago, it has not been true for years. Not seeing anything there about having to pay full MSRP, and the "every single knife" portion, while true at that time for "all variants" CC members, was never true at the "new models only" level unless you equate "every new model" to "every single knife".
