A friend of mine picked up a Calypso with a beautiful linen/epoxy handle at the factory sale, and i have to say it's the most beautiful of all the Spyderco's I've seen to date. Just a poem of a knife.

And they're real hard to find ;-)

Any chance of a sprint? Anybody else like to own one?

Hi Muppet, not sure which model you're talking about, as both the C52 Calypso Jr. and the larger C54 Calypso were made in Micarta. Both are great knives and I'd love to see a sprint run of either (or better yet both) in plain edge, as originals of both are hard to find (the full size very hard). A different color micarta, say green or burgundy, would be a good way to set them apart from the older ones. On the other hand, if you like serrated and black micarta, both the C52 and C54 are still available from John Jensen and probably from other sources as well.

After being silly enough to trade my large, plain edge Calypso away awhile back...I found one for sale on Bladeforums "for sale" page and now have one again. They can be found if you keep looking.

I too, love the Calypso. It was the first Spyderco I ever wanted. The shape of it is wonderful. It feels great in the hand and looks classy as hell. I'd love to see these available again (especially in plain edge.) However, I'd like to see a handle material other than Micarta (Stainless, titanium, carbon fiber. . .)

I'd like to see the fullsize Calypso as a sprint run (VG-10 or S30V), but frankly don't see the numbers coming together for it to happen. I may have to settle(?) for a Paramilitary when they become available again.

Guess I "settled" with a Paramilitary as well (oh, the agony-kidding, I love this thing!), but would like to see a full-size Calypso offered. What a great knife. All I ever see are the serrated version, which doesn't interest me...

Yeah, I'm glad to know the serrateds are still around, but the plain edge... it really is the most beautiful knife Spyderco has made, for my money. Micarta - sorry, I couldn't remember what it was called linen/epoxy indeed ;-) What's odd is that it's hard to say why the Calypso is so much better looking than, say, an Endura which is superficially similar. Just one of those bits of design magic...

Perhaps we ought to make a list of folks or something....

Muppet,

I really like the Calypso too! I have a C54BMS (black micarta, fully serrated). I would love to see another run so I could get a PE version to match it.

I found a Calypso PE in a closeout sale in a local surplus store for the grand total of $60.00. I wish they'd had a dozen of them, 'cuz I would've bought them all! I LOVE this knife! The blade shape is graceful and elegant, the steel is high quality, the micarta scales add a nice touch of class and the edge is scary sharp after three years of daily carry and use. I wouldn't trade this knife for any other!

I've recently begun carrying my large, micarta PE Calypso as a second knife - for food preparation purposes! :) You see, when a tomato needs to be cut up at lunchtime, there is no other knife I own that works so well. In fact, when I first saw a picture of this knife I remember thinking to myself "Wow, a folding chef's knife!"

Nestled in my pocket beside it is currently a CE BT coated Stryker for the "tough" cuts, or for use on non-food itmes. This is at least as often another Spydie.

Great knife!! I have a nice plain edge Calypso I carry on special occasions. Between it and my full-size C50 Centofante(plain edge also), I have the "Gentleman's Pair". :)
I really like the lined laynard hole. Just a small touch of class IMHO.

Everybody seems to like the Calypso (either small or big). I just can't imagine why the full size one was a bad seller... :( I guess the market wasn't ready for it at that time... Just like it happened with the first OD Delicas :(

It did not have the same great ergonomics of the Jr. It also did not seem substantial enough at 4" size without liners.
