What are sprint runs?
Limited run of existing models with a different feature:
- blade steel
- handle material
- handle colour
- grind
- other ?

How do they get made?
Does Spyderco gets everybody by surprise and announces a sprint run?
Or are they all been asked for intensively on the different fora by the fans?

How are they announced and where can they be bought?

Have all sprint runs the same number of knives or does this depend on the type of knife.
Could a dealer exclusive be seen as a kind of sprint run (quantity of knives)

Has spyderco ever made a sprint run of a fixed blade?
Could a sprint run of the Bushcraft with a cpm3v blade be possible?
Has Spyderco ever used this steel in their knives?

What are sprint runs?

Its when you run the fastest you can.

Sorry that was terrible I know but I could'nt help it.

A limited run of existing models with different features is spot on.

I think the amount made depends on the model/popularity.
Not sure about the fixed blade question though.

Generally in the same place by the same people that made the regular production model

Sometimes. The CPM D2 Military happened with very little warning.

Or are they all been asked for intensively on the different fora by the fans?

Some of them have been the result of forum requests, such as the Ladybug Hawkbill.

These forums are one place they are announced, and if you do the Facebook thing, you can follow Spyderco on Facebook and get announcements. Most Sprints are available through regular dealers, or you can buy them from the Spyderco Factory Outlet if you don't mind paying full MSRP.

Sprint Run numbers are based on a number of factors. Some makers have a minimum run size, sometimes only a limited amount of material is available, and estimated demand plays a part. I believe there were only 100 Dinosaur Bone Executives made, while there were 1500 BG-42/CF Militaries made. Generally one or two 600 piece runs are made, although lately they have been doing smaller runs due to the economy. Sal doesn't want to be stuck with hundreds of knives he has to sell at a loss just to be rid of. It has happened.

Could a dealer exclusive be seen as a kind of sprint run (quantity of knives)

Yes, Dealer and Distributor exclusives are generally considered Sprint Runs.

Has spyderco ever made a sprint run of a fixed blade?

Yes. The black blade/O.D. Green handle FB04 Perrin Street Bowie comes to mind, and I believe the Orange Moran was a Sprint, or at least it started as one.

Could a sprint run of the Bushcraft with a cpm3v blade be possible?

Anything is possible. Sal reads these forums, and he bends over backward to give us what we want.

Has Spyderco ever used this steel in their knives?

Not yet, although the Tuff is planned to use it, and a Mule Team or Military sprint first would not surprise me.

So far they seem to have worked out that way, single runs of a known size. However, AFAIK, there's nothing to prevent the sponsor of an exclusive from ordering a second batch if they feel demand warrants it. While that's probably unlikely with dealer exclusives, I could see it happening with a distributor exclusive.

I want to Perrin Street Bowie sprint run.
VG-10 steel & black micarta or G10 handle...

It would be a sweet knife if you can stand the ergonomics of the design, but it would require all new tooling. The original is a stick tang with FRN molded handle. Changing to a full tang to accomodate Micarta or G-10 slabs would essentially make it a whole new knife instead of a variation of an existing piece.

Yes, unlike a bushie in 3V ;)
