Always wanted one, but passed them by for some strange reason. But, I ain't gettin' any younger , so I picked one up. ( The store had a discount sale today I didn't even know about, til I got my receipt )

I like the smaller size than the 110 also. I have a question , though. Are the wooden handle scales resin-impregnated ? Just curious.

This knife locks up sure and solid. I won't tell ya what I paid ( unless you pry!), because we get raped on knife prices up here , but it was under $60 CND. Great EDC for me , that's for sure

(ps. I just seen your fellas custom ones....WOW !)

My wish would be to have Micarta, but I can live with the wood ( resin impregnated ?)

Hiwa,

The scales for the 110 and 112 series is a laminated wood product. The wood is obeechee wood. I understand its a wood from Africa similar to cottonwood or poplar. Its stained to look like the Macassar Ebony that was used on 110s and 112s until the early 90s.

I don't have my notes but Buck switched to 420hc from 425M in the early 90s too and I get the two confused. I think the switch to Obeechee wood was 92/93 and switch to 420hc was 94.

Anyway, I don't think being a glued laminate is exactly the same as being resin impregnated but it is a very durable product and looks almost as good as the real ebony.

Thanks, Flat. I greatly appreciate your knowledge and information you've given me. ( not the first time you helped me !)

I like the 420hc. No complaints at all about it. A lot better steel than some give it credit for. I picked from three today. One had a nick in the handle; one had a too stiff blade play, and the one I chose felt good in it's action and lock-up. The handle grain is very attractive, and unique to each model it seems. I'm sure I made a wise choice.

Thanks again,

Pete

(BTW, as far as factory knives go , Bucks are my favorite !)

Pete,

Your wish can be filled by watching ebay. The first two versions of the 112 were issued in 1972 came with micarta handles. They do show up every now and then. These also ave 440C blade material.

I was 12 years old when these came out and was already collecting knives. When I read that Buck was making a short version of the 110 in 72...well I had to have one. I thought how swell these would look together in my knife box. I was very disappointed when I got the 112 and it did not have wood scales like the 110 and no nail nick....these two did not look good at all side by side:(. Funny thing is I gave my older brother the 112. However, I still have the box after all these years:eek:.

Realyy nices customs there. I never seen them before I was on BF. I didn't see nothing around around here except mass production models ( which are still great knives, especially as they get used) :)

ah 112's nice girls knife!
talk of odd ones..
buck sway has a 2002 drop point 112
he got it from Joe one year ..
was the first drop point 112 i ever saw..

Congrats on a great knife... I personally like the 112 much better than the 110.

It has a feel to it that few knives do. If I can't do the job at hand with a 112, I'll get a fixed blade :D YMMV

The top two have been pictured already but I still like this picture. You know a 112 will do a workman like job on a Diller!!

Boy aren't these just as rare as hen teeth?

:eek::eek: You have posted pics of some real beauties, as well as the great job you have done on many Bucks, but that one actually made my pulse go up. A LOT :D

A drop point, FG, Stag 112  That has got to be the holy grail of 112's
