Spur backspring too strong?

I can barely unlock this more than once with one hand. It seems unnecessary for a short little knife. Anyone else have one like this?
 
I "fixed" it using a wrench as a hammer and a short saw blade as a punch. A few good whacks to the spring and it's perfect. Time will tell if I damaged it any, but it seems to work.
