So yesterday afternoon I was just sitting around and I realized, "hey it's nice out, I should take the dog and head out for a few hours". I keep my maxpedition waistpack (the bigger version of the proteus, can't remember the name) packed so I grabbed it and the dog and headed for a state rec area about 25 minutes from my house. Here's my pics.

The best lunch I could put together at the little gas station. Not gourmet, but it worked.

The blades I brought. My JK Scandi Bushcrafter and my German Army Knife.

My dog Major had a great time.

It was a good time. A little on the warm side (nearly 80, but I'll be used to the warmer weather again in a few weeks). I really love going to this location because there's rarely anyone there. I just wish I lived closer.

I'm in Michigan, this is in the northeastern Detroit suburbs. WC Wetzel State Rec Area.

A tall can always seems to find it's way into my daypack too. :D

Looks like a good time! My favorites are on the spot hikes! I tend to not worry as much about where and what I am going to do and just go! Thanks for posting

Another person who likes to hike at the spur of the moment. Best hikes there are. No planning, just a quick thought in your head and you are out the door. Awesome

Better Made Barbecue is the only reason I stay in Michigan. :D

Thanks for the pics. I might have to give that Rec area a try if I get to that end of town again with a little time to spare.
