Hi, just wanted to know why Spyderco uses 2 screws in the pivot next to the main pivot instead of just one? They use one larger and one smaller screw. Has it something to do with the strenght that is created this way? or is there a different reason for this.

Thanks for any reply.

I think you mean the Leafstorm blade stop/back spacer. They are different lengths because of different thickness of G10 and Ti.

The blade stop is eccentric to allow adjustment of lock up and the Ti side screw is secured with what looks like red lock tite. If you are disassembling the Leafstorm, remove the screws from the G10 side and and don't mess with the screw on the Ti side or you will have to readjust the lock up and re lock tite the screw.

On the Leafstorm and some other models the two screw pivot allows Spyderco to use a stepped pivot pin, which functions as a bushing. No idea as to why the two different sizes and styles of screw head. The knife would definitely be more attractive, at least to me, if they matched even if just in head type. If anything, I'd understand it better if the larger head was on the weaker G-10 side to distribute any loads placed on it over a larger area. But, Sal usually has good reason for doing what he does, even if the esthetics which result sometimes make me cringe.

Hi Wally, I noticed a difference in lockup after removing the screw on the Ti side. Can you explain to me how that is possible? The lockup was indeed different and you can adjust it how you want it, the lockup I mean. One would say that the spacer is not round but a bit oval. Am I correct about this? One thing more, I screwed up the screw on the G-10 side, any ideas what to do next because I cannot find replacement for it.

Thanks for any reply.

You might consider sending the knife to Spyderco for screw replacement and proper reassembly.

Any other Leafstorm owners tempted to disassemble their knife should be cautious of removing blade stop screws...you will alter lock up and those screws strip easy.

Hi Wally, I know I should not mess with it. The problem is, I live in The Netherlands so sending it back is no option for me, too expensive. Is there no other option??.................

You could contact Spyderco warranty & repair, see if they'd send you the parts, then get someone with the necessary skill to repair it for you. There are at least a couple of the Dutch members on the Spyderco Factory Forum who might be willing and able to help you.

Contact Spyderco and see if they will send you the two screws.....or check out knife kit makers and knife parts suppliers for correct screws.

The screws are soft, I rounded off one of them but was able to upsize socket hole to next larger size...I think it was T6 to T7...difficult proceedure.

Good Luck !

Also try Kevin Wilkens...He is in Germany.

Thanks friends for the input, I will contact Spyderco and keep my hands of any screws in the near future.

They will send me the srews today, no problem. But there is a different problem mentioned in the thead now. Leafstorm.

How can there be a different problem ? A new problem ?

You very clearly say that the lock up has changed AFTER you removed the blade stop and you acknowledge you messed up by doing this.
