Well folks, I'm typically a lurker, but I can't resist this post. I just got back from a business trip in Japan, and I found a great shop in Shibuya (in Tokyo area). Check out the bite of the Spyder bug:

Pride-n-joy on this trip: G10 Civvie NIB, $88
Carbon fiber cricket: $49 (seen on ebay for ~ $94)
Blue Jester: $16.45 (seen on ebay for $21)
Red Ladybug: $16.45 (seen on ebay for $21)
"Q" model: $37 (seen on ebay for ~ $80)

I'll post a picture if I can. What fun.
(The other knife was a "freebie" from the owner as a gift, an odd but cool Japanese style knife.)

The web site for this fine shop is:

Excellent haul, you made out like a bandit! :) What can you tell us about the freebie knife, it looks very cool!

Well, the freebie is a Lever-open, from the back-rear of the blade. I will post a picture series: you put your fingers on the lever and push down. Isn't it funny that the freebie is very interesting! I like it a lot (not as much as the civilian!), but the utilitarian function is appealing. The owner tells me that the blade style is classic Japanese utility knife. It is a bit dull and it will need some attention from my Sharpmaker 204, but the steel looks good and I like the "reverse Tanto" style blade.

Very nice blades!

Someone else posted a link to another Japanese Spyderco retailer a few weeks ago. One thing that stood out when I looked at the site was that they had a lot of models for sale that are discontinued in the U.S. For example, they had Mariners, which haven't been available new for a long time. Did you notice the same thing at the shop you went to? Does anyone know if the various models have different life spans in different countries?

Yes, I saw some older stuff, including experimental models that I had never seen before. Also had a mother of pearl "worker" model. Here are a couple pics of the "Spydershelves" in the shop. Enjoy.

Hey Rorshach :

Ain't that a "kissing Crane" stiletto lockback in that case?
That storeowner has the SAME taste as me! Spydies AND stilettoes!!!!

A.E.T. ( ATE on Spyderco.com forum )

A.E.T. : Yes, he had a few Stilettoes, but the picture I showed represents only about 1/20th of his store showcase. He had lots of great stuff, including most of your popular production folders and fixed blades.

Glad to post the pics. I travel a few times a year on business and with my new Spyder-disease, I will try to seek out unique shops and post the pics in the future. If I can't buy them all at least I can take home the photos!
