I have a question on sharpening angles. I thought that a good knife angle was approximately 20 degrees. I was looking at the sharpmaker and it said that it has sharpening angles of 30 and 40 degrees ?
Doesnt make any sense to me.
So do you guys have any idea of what the angles are suppose to be ?.
How does Spyderco come up with 30 or 40 degrees ?
What do you guys think ?

I don't have one, but could they be talking inclusive angles? In other words, the total angles for both sides, which would make it 15, and 20 degrees, per side.

That is correct.

Surgical steel blades are 10-15 degrees - chisel-ground (one side only)

Most knives come with a 40-50 degree flat-grind nowadays.

20-25 degrees on each side.

That is also what spyderco recommends (maker of the sharpmaker).
