These were both from a pass around.
93mm Rescue Wave:
Loved this knife. For anyone who has not used a spyderco (doubtful) the grips provide great traction without bitting into your hands. The blade was of course sharp and although I am not a fan of fully serrated blades they do great with rope, seat belts etc. etc. This is the first Spydie I have tried with the wave feature and I loved it. There is no faster one handed opening option. My only complaint is that it can be a little rough on slacks or thinner pants. But thats not a big deal since this isn't a dress knife. I don't personally have a lot of use for a fully serrated blade so I had to invent some. I didn't mind at all. The rescue handled them all without a hick-up. This is a great knife for anyone who needs or wants these features. Opening was smooth and lock up was solid, nothing but good.
Spyderco S:
Didn't like this knife at all. Now let me be clear about this. There was nothing wrong with this knife, I just don't like it. I seems to me like a knife that was created "just because we can". All I see is places for grit, dust and pocket lint to collect. The lock while functioning correctly doesn't inspire confidence in myself. It resembles a liner lock but the lock is not part of the liner. It is a piece set into the handle. More parts seem like more things that could possibly fail. Also the handles themselves feel to me like the junk steel used to make so many floor plates and trigger guards on most of today rifles. This may be wrong but they certainly didnt seem tough or even high quality. In all honesty the handle and lock seam more like a knock off knife than any Spyderco I have ever owned or handled. It just isn't for me. I could see two uses for this knife. One would be a dedicated Spydie fan that wants a knife that screams spider. I could see this rounding out someones collection with a bit of style. Also if you like the looks of this knife enough I do not doubt that it would work for edc. It opened smooth and locked up well. Again there was nothing wrong with the way his knife functioned. Just not my cup of tea at all. If you had your eye on this knife already you owe it to yourself to handle one in person and make your own assessment. I would buy a can of dust off though and spray out all those little holes so they didn't get gummed up over time.
