In another thread someone mentioned classic Spydercos. That got me feeling all nostalgic and trying to remember my first experience hearing about and seeing Spydercos. There were articles in knife magazines as well as small ads in gun rags. The ones I remember most would tell hpw a Spyderco got them out of a tight spot.

I was hoping some of you might remember some of the earlier ads or even have old knife or gun magazine ads which you could link, post, or relate to us here just for the heck of it. I found a couple on Google from 99 I think. Maybe Sal Glesser Sal Glesser could contribute some too.

I believe I read an ad about a guy that worked in a shop around machinery and his shirt got caught and pulled in. He used his free hand to grab a serrated Delica and open it one handed and was able to cut himself away saving him.

Another was a woman jogging that was mugged/attacked and she used a Harpy (I believe) to defend herself.

These may have been personal stories, its been twenty years since remembering these accounts as ads or related stories. Either way it left an impression on me thst Spyderco was a brand you could count on. Even then you could tell the company was cutting edge <some pun intended>

My first Spyderco was a Stainless Harpy in about '96... though I had wanted one for years before that. Someone stole that knife and when I was able to replace it I haven't been without one since.

Pure performance - indeed!

That “pure performance” ad is a real blast from the past. That was in every knife mag I owned for a period of time.

"Back in the day", our designs were so unusual that we had to create ads that would catch the eye. There were quite a few. Might be an interesting brochure to make a collection of some of the more "out of the box" ads. Maybe Joyce could pull it together. Thee were quite a few.

I was imprinted pretty young "back in the day".
I was looking for one hand opening. I bought a frame Holster that pinched the blade of my Buck 110 when I was 11(1981). That's about the time I noticed the Clipit Worker. Yearned for it a few years till I saw a Police. OMG! My 1st Spyderco in 1988.
Best looking knives by then.
