Spyderco and Kershaw at Walmart

OK so Kershaw now basically has a nice lineup of its knives at Walmart. Spyderco still has the Native 3. Now here is the point, with Walmart now having the Native and Kershaw's new OD-1, which would you choose? I own both and can say, that for the same price, both hollow ground, and both that have good steel with great warranties, proven locks, I myself would go with the OD-1. Went out and bought one a few days again and I can say that it is 100% better IMHO. What do you guys think?

my walmart is getting them in now. i know the ones in Boise ID hae em too. my buddy just got an OD1...loves it

The Walmarts in our area have never had the Native, I've checked frequently for the last several years, the Native isn't on the website either. I'll keep an eye out for the new Kershaws.

I want that new OD-1 so badly. I just wish it had a black blade. I'm a sucker for coated blades.

Join the club. I think that in a past life I was a Ninja in my own mind. ;)

My question is, how the heck do you choose between two great knives? I have had the Native for quite some time and it is one of my favorite 'go to' knives. The ergonomics, blade design and S30V steel on the Native just harmonize to make a great knife.

On the other hand, the OD-1 has G-10 scales, a frame lock, a Lee Williams 'flipper' and a custom 14C28N stainless blade, not to mention the great looks.

Nuts! The only way that I see out of the dilemma is to buy both. Besides, what is wrong with having two great knives? :D

The Kershaw seems a bit flimsy just by appearences, I think the spyderco has a bit more strength to it

superfly, the kershaw od-1 is far from flimsy. It has a nice solid frame lock, and mine has zero blade play. I think it was an amazing value for jsut $40. my wal mart did nto have any spyderco in their selection though.

i personally would get the od-1, but take my opinion with a grain of salt, as i have never used a native, i just know that i am in love with my od.

I guarantee you that that is not even CLOSE to being the case. My expert eyes :jerkit: show me that the Native is only 1 millimeter wider then the OD-1, and that is just a FRN handle. I will say that the OD-1 is stronger, like a pro football player is stronger then a high school football player.

I thought they only had the Spyderco Native I, made in Golden USA with S30V steel. The Native 3 is VG-10 from Seki and the Native 4 is VG-10 with CF scales from Seki.

My Walmart does not have the OD-1... I wish it did. Instead they have the Zing! which is pretty awesome too.

I'm a Spyderco guy from way back. I picked up an OD1 yesterday and am blown away. Fortunately, the OD and Native are miles apart. The OD is a looker that can work and the Native is a worker that looks good. I own both and between them they will keep most of my other knives on the shelf for a while!

carrot, the Walmart in Levittown (Nassau) has the whole selection...not sure where in NYC you are...

Well, I don't think I'll be going to Walmart anytime soon, here's my customer service inquiry after today's fun:

My goal was to call my local Walmart's to find out if they had a particular hunting knife in stock. I called 3 different Walmart's, not ONE of them could successfully direct my call so that I could ask my question and 6 of the 13 people I spoke to could not speak English well enough to even comprehend what I was saying. The first Walmart I called (store 1845) directed me to sporting goods, who then directed me to kitchen cutlery, who then put me on hold for over 17 minutes! So I figured, maybe they are having a bad day or a bad connections issue.....and I called another one. Store 2151 answered my call and sent me to the sporting goods section, who then tried to transfer me to someone else, after waiting 11 minutes, some one actually picked up the phone! I asked my question and you know what he said, "Hold On, Let me transfer you". So I hung up. The Last Walmart didn't even try to help. Store 1349 answered the phone (I called from this number: (954) 749-3111) and after asking my question, she told me to CALL BACK at a different time and have them TRANSFER ME to another department! This is absolutely ridiculous, I've never felt so uncared for by a company in my entire life.

The Walmart website has knives offered in the stores, and more, and you can have them shipped to your local store free.

I have told my friends and family for at least 10 years "If you want Walmart prices, expect Walmart service."

That said, I do shop there from time to time (Native 3), but I do NOT expect any help. Do not expect something that no one pays for. Throw the old "customer service is king" theory out the window.
