Anyone recognize either of these two synthetic hones? I am especially interested in learning actual grit size equivalent and material. The Spyderco was purchased in the early '80's from a knife shop. The Krystolo was inherited from my Grandfather, which he used to sharpen his straight razor back when that was the standard tool for shaving.
I've had these two hones in my knife drawer for close to 35 years. Both were so horrible clogged as to be useless. Just the other day, I became interested in trying to rejuvenate them. I ran them through the dishwasher, scrubbed with a Scotchbrite and liquid detergent, and, finally, hit'em with a Scotchbrite and Barkeepers Friend. The latter really did the trick in cleaning them up. Indeed, the results of the Barkeepers Friend was impressive.
The Krystolo is dished out, so I need to flatten it, too. I am thinking of maybe getting a Naniwa Flattening Stone for this, or would the Naniwa be good only for use on water stones?
Any info beyond what is printed on their respective boxes would be appreciated.
TIA
