Hi everybody! I'm posting to get your help. Early this year my father passed away. He left very little for my mother but one thing he did leave is a large knife collection. Could you all help me find out what kind of knives I have and how much they are worth. I will post a series of pictures so any help udentifying them would be great. Once I have an idea what they are I will be auctioning most of them on ebay.

Thanks,

Scott

welcome to the forums!
as for your question

1. this is the spyderco gunting, made for martial blade craft (mbc) it retails on smokey mountain knife works for about 133 bucks. i believe the plain edge one (pe) is discontinued.

2.this is, as the blade indicaties, a spyderco massad ayoob. it has been discontinued now, though i couldnt give you an estimate on price, but its probably worth a bit

3. no clue, do some research, i think it retails around 50-70 dollars, not really worth a whole lot. though it looks to be in excellent condition

if you look on the spyderco website, spyderco.com, you can find the msrp of those. knifecenter.com will give you the selection of a lot of knives for what they normally go for, and they have an extensive listing.

maybe you could try selling 'em on this forum...

people are nice here and you know the knife will go to someone who will take care of it...and i don't think anyone will cheat you on the price...

if you decide on the price i might consider it as some of the knives do look interesting...

i don't really know the value of these knives...if you can give a fair price on the military i'm game...

email me when you decide on the price...

i think newgraham.com is selling it for $98.30...

i don't really know the condition of the knife...but what do you think?

Question:
Who was your father on bladeforums? losing a member is something that we should know about.... and something tells me by the sifu that he was a member on bladeforums

Scott, first off, sympathies for your loss. aaron makes a point - the quality of the collection and the BFC Sifu indicate that your Dad probably frequented here, or at least was a very serious collector.

I suggest you keep at least some of these knives, as they are high quality knives that will not lose thise value, not to mention their sentimental value to you, siblings, grandkids, etc.

If you really want to liquidate some or all of the collection, I suggest you get in touch with one of the moderators here. They are all stand-up guys who will help make sure you don't get "taken" by selling for less than they are worth, and will help find the knives a good home.

Hi Scott, first off, my condolences on the loss of your father, I lost my dad 3 years ago and I miss him every day. You seem to be in possesion of some nice knives, many of which are collected by the members of this forum. You can get a good estimate of the value of these knives by looking at some of the places we buy ours on line, several suggestions are:
www.1sks.com
www.eknifeworks.com
www.ebay.com
The thing about ebay is, you need to see how much a knife goes for at the end of it's auction, to get a good idea of what someone is willing to pay for it, or if it has a buy-it-now price, that is a decent estimate of it's value. A knife is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it, so ebay is a double edged sword. Many knives have a buy-it-now price set at around retail, and I know, speaking for myself, if I am going to pay retail for a knife, I will buy it from a retail outlet I have bought from before, to take the worry of buying from a stranger out of the equation. If you choose to sell them on this forum be aware, you are new here, and we don't know you or anything about you, you may want to meet one of our trusted forumites in person somewhere so they can attest to the knives based on having seen them and their condition in person. Many of us live in California, I myself am in the Sacramento area. Good luck on the sale of the knives, we will help all that we can.

didn't realise that military was a special one...never held one in real life...

i'm still shopping around for my first spydie...

the Gunting is a First run, you can tell by the Black clip and CPM 440. It's worth what you can get a new one for, maybe a little more or less,

The Ayoob may be worth more if it's micarta handled- there were 2 versions, and they vary in desireablilty.

edc= retail

The SIFU is highly collectible, especially by folks here

The Forum 2000 Millie, check the forums Torz suggested

the Police looks like a special run-i'm lost.-

edited to add: not the CF Police; they're still available

Sorry for your loss.

Good advice to check with a mod here. You'll get good advice and a fair estimate of the values.

I also would like to know your father's screen name. From the SIFU and the Spyderco Forum Military he should be known around here.

The Magnum Research knife may be one to hang on to, depending on how many were made. Someone at the Spyderco forum in the makers forum here should be able to tell you.

The BladeForum SIFU should have markings on the other side of the blade. That would identify the knife better. There were 5 or 6 different versions made. Some are rarer than others.

I for one would be interested if and when you sell some of these knives.
