I wish they made this knife with a point blade and partial SE&PE then this knife would be the all end carry of anything.

I love this knife. Specially with the glass breaker. But the dull point keeps it like they say for like first responders rather then civilian use. I actually kind of need a knife like this that I'm in FL and plan on getting back into heavy fishing. The dull point makes it too much of a tool and not enough knife IMO.

The problem is, the dull tip and the glass breaker are joined at the hip. The "buck tooth" on the Assist's tip is what actuates the glass breaker. Remove that, and the only other option would be having the glass breaker permanently exposed, which can lead to excessive pocket wear.

So just get a Pacific Salt.
When's the last time you needed a glass breaker?

You mean something like this one?

No. where is your glass breaker? I live in FL drive a new car with my windows almost always up. What if I crash into some water and the water pressure traps you in your car. Then all your silly spyderco can so is cut your seat belt if its jammed. You're still stuck in your car and probably going to die.

Your doors open, right? A car doesn't sink instantly, you have several seconds before the water pressure holds the door shut. If your car enters the water fast enough to submerge instantly, you are already dead or far too injured to retrieve your knife and break a window. Water acts like concrete at high speed.

But by all means, you should have the knife you want, I'm not saying you shouldn't. Just trying to offer an alternate take on it, since there are a couple options for H1 blades with points. No offense intended. :)

I got an Assist with the intent of regrinding it to a sharp point (I'm not worried about the glass breaker). After carrying it for awhile though I decided it was a perfect design, given its intent, and decided to just let it be what it is. The Assist rides in the glove box of my car now. I have plenty of knives with pointy tips.

On the Assist Salt the glass breaker is activated by squeezing the handle and blade spine while the folder is closed. So, you could have a sharp tip. Perhaps I'm missing something? I have one of the Assist Salt.

I think they could make an Assist Salt with a sharp tip. I also have the Fox FX-214 E.R.T. Rescue folder with a blunt tip (first one below) but you can also get the Fox FX-213SS E.R.T. Rescue folder with a sharp tip (second one below). Of course, in both cases they have a permanent glass breaker (near the pivot on the handle).

Ramzar, it's that nub on the tip that deploys the glass breaker when you squeeze the blade into the handle. Grind the nub off and it won't work.

Thanks. I see that now.

Perhaps an enclosure that would wrap around the sharp tip would work. Anyway, choices are always good. Personally, it's a moot point since I believe in a blunt tip for such rescue knives.

Unless you're a penguin, then you could hold your breath for 20 mins..I don't think I would rely on just the Assist glass breaker, those hammers are cheap and a lot more substantial than any breaker I have seen on a knife, I have one in my center console.

The Assist Salt is a terrific knife. I just keep coming down to the harsh reality that I can get a window punch and trauma shears for about $10. Still a great knife, though.
