I just received a Spyderco Assist for my birthday.

I'm my short time here, I rarely see much talk about this neat little piece.

Although it is bigger than something I could carry on my person, I absolutely love the greater sense of security I get from having it in my car. I am that much more prepared for any vehicular emergencies that I may be involved in or that I might witness.

I'd love to hear your opinions on the Assist.

Oh yes, I like this knife. I have one that I keep in my car. I also bought my girlfriend one too. I would buy more if I had the funds. Yes, theres not much talk about it. I hear that its used by the coast guard and some firefighters.

One of my buddies who works in another part of town carries an assist.Sometimes our companies go on the same runs.Everytime we see each other on the street after calls, I always just stick my hand out and he puts his Assist in it.I really like it alot and so does he and has used it a fair amount.I carry a D'allara rescue on duty, but would be happy with an assist too!

The Spyderco ASSIST I model is a great utility knife. I keep one on my sun visor in my pick up truck.

I would think that every first responder in the country would just have to have one of these great blades. The carbide GLASSBREAKER on the ASSIST I model could be a life saving tool under adverse circumstances.

It is a great model that never has recieved much fanfare  With models like the ASSIST I Spyderco could easily capture the "first Responder" market if enough folks would simply give them a try. It's not a collector piece at all but it is one premium utility knife for sure.

Now, is the only difference the tip and the retractable glass breaker? In regards to the blade, does this differ much from the Rescue models? I was going to get one, and leave it in my truck, would it hold up to utility use?
