Hi Guys,

I don't post in the Spyderco subforum often as I am a Chris Reeve / Busse kinda guy, but I do have a handful of Spydies. I picked up an Assist for my wife to keep in her car and I must say that is is without a doubt the sharpest serrated knife I have ever seen! It push-cuts paper on both the serrated and small plain edge section. I do wish that the carbide glass breaker was "fixed" as their method is a bit hokey, but I can look past that.

Seems to me like it is the perfect vehicle rescue knife in an inexpensive package. I am going to get another one for my vehicle.

I used to have one of the first generation of the Assist 1 with the whistle and the glassbreaker. Actually when I tested the Glassbreaker I didn't have a problem with it myself and found it worked even better than I thought it would. I traded it and now I wish I hadn't.

It's truly one of the best "rescue" type knives I ever owned. Albeit I usually have at least 2 folders on me at all time that will do most of what the Assist would do in case of emergency. But I do agree with you that it is a quality unit all the way. There is very little fanfare made of the knife which is unfortunate because it certainly deserves some.

On the other hand, having the glass breaker the way it is means it won't scratch you or anything else accidentally. It also insures that it will only be used with the knife closed. But, as with most things, neither of those may be important to you.

Mine's in my pocket right now. I usually have it with me, mostly in my gear bag. It's a woods knife: walking down our trails, I trim thorn bushes and small branches growing out into the trail. One quick slash with those monster serrations and the branch goes down with a clean cut. Faster than the saw on my Victorinox Farmer.

I do not like a glassbreaker on the butt of a knife I palm my handles a lot, and a point there interferes with that.

Never owned an assist but Im a big fan of the rescues. First spyderco was an ATS55 SE rescue (they also had PE's back then which were AWESOME). Of all the spydercos Ive owned since, none have came out of the box as sharp as that one. After reading Esavs comment, might look into an orange one if the price is right (they always seemed a bit salty, but sweet).

Is the wire clip on the assist similiar to the Sage's (deeper carry), or a higher carry one as i have seen in most pictures?
