Did anyone here visit their booth? What production prototypes or concepts excited you the most?

For me, two in particular blew my hair back:
  • ROC Cleaver (incredible action and concept, can't wait to get one)
  • Ronin 2 (SO excited about this, I actually squealed when I saw it. I've been waiting/hoping for years for ver.2)

Both had "gray cards" which means they're going to actually make them :adoration: .

Anyways, thanks spyderfolks for once again putting up a great display, and offering all your great blades for sale right next door.

PS: I picked up the new Vox/Anso Pingo, which is probably the sharpest out-of-the-box blade I've ever seen*. I'm not very knowledgeable on the N690Co steel, other than the Extrema Ratio blades, but DAMN it is hair-splitting sharp. I mean, I've made all the knives I own that sharp, but I've never seen it like that straight out of the box. Big props to the guys in Italy.

*out of any knife brand/blade material I've purchased: Spyderco, ESEE, Benchmade, Camillus-KaBar, CRKT, Kershaw, SOG, Puma, Ontario, Microtech, Global, Shun, Boker, Cold Steel... and prob a couple more I can't remember off the top of my head.

im really curious to know the status of the slysz bowie...
You know, I really should have taken a pic of the prototype table for people to see the red (concept) and grey (production proto) cards next to the models. Sorry, I'll do this next time if they're okay with that.
Edit: n/m, they're not OK with that (which is understandable). I'll bring a note pad next time ;)

Did anyone see a Jani-song if it was there? If so, any more news? I didn't make it to the show this year.

Can you describe the ronin 2?
Maybe MJ or Sal might chime in... but to me it looked and felt like a fixed-blade translation of the Yojimbo 2... but the spine was more of a straight angle (not curved like Yo2). The spine also didn't seem as thick and I don't remember the indexing holes being on the handle from version 1... it felt a lot like the handle of the Yo2, complete with G10. Quite stout and pointy... and damned sexy. If I remember correctly the blade will also be S30v. Overall a more refined/evolved Ronin fighter. Everything you need and removal of what you don't.

Several years ago I tried to take a pic and was told I was not allowed. Maybe rules have changed though?

My money is literally burning a hole in my pocket!!

Would you say its the same OAL as the Yojimbo? A 3" Wharncliffe Blade would be perfect

The Rubicon was very nice as was the dog tag concept. There was a concept for another Gayle Bradley that was very slim. The slyze (spelling?) Bowie will be on my list. The k2 is a very large knife. You see pics in catalogs and on this site but it is hard to scale until you have one in hand. The chubbie is very smooth and i look forward to it as well. So many options.....and the Ronin 2....
I wish i could have taken pics of them all but the case had many "no photo" placards.

I think it was pretty close to Yo2 opened, yeah. BTW, I picked up their 'mid-year' catalog poster and I didn't see the Ronin 2... I've got a sinking feeling we're not gonna see something until 2015 :(

No pics in the proto cabinet still. I went looking for the Kiwi 4 and did not see it in any of the cabinets.

I went Saturday.

Slyz Bowie: I am already a fan of the Techno, it is my EDC blade. I can easily see the Bowie pushing it out of my pocket. My initial reaction to this one is that it was substantially lighter than I anticipated, at the same time it had a great lockup and felt just as sturdy as any folder I've ever handled. The scales are convexed, which really doesn't show so well in the photos. It was very comfortable to hold. I went from thinking I will probably get this one to setting aside funds now. This one is a winner, as long as the final fit and finish is like the techno.

Chubby: Stout. This one feels very similar to the Techno to me. Heavy little rhino of a knife. I was holding a production prototype, so maybe they have made changes, but I felt the lockbar was too difficult to disengage. Where the Techno has a large cutout for the thumb to disengage the lockbar, the Chubby's non locking scale has virtually the same contour as the locking scale. The thick blade does make the lockbar accessible, but I felt it would be hard to close while wearing gloves or with wet/dirty hands. I'll be passing on this one...I might buy a second Techno instead.

Dogtag: I felt giddy holding it. Cute little thing. I wonder how many I can buy before I get into trouble with my wife.

Grizz

Its literally not.

I am so excited for the Ronin2!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hope they keep it subtle like the original, and not turn it into some over the top ninja turtle device.
