Received one of these from a forumite @ the "Home" site.
Seems to be the usual quality.
What's you forumite(s) opinion(s)?

AET;)

It is an intruiging knife with the way that the blade is angled, and yet that angle makes it quite well suited for a number of task. Its intended task is stabbing, but I use mine for a utility knife at work. Been doing that for about four months and it is doing well at it.

I think it would be a 100% better knife if the scales were G-10! As it is (old-style), it is too darn slippery. This folder has a rather "interesting" shape to it. As usual for the Spyderedge, it cuts like a buzz-saw on crack.

YOUR VIEW(S) ARE MORE THAN WELCOME
ON ANY OF MY THREAD(S)!;) "Slippery"
remind(s) me of the Paul Simon song:
"slip sliding away"! But Whaddya
gonna do? Am considering your offer
about "relocating" to Washington as
I have a brother who(m) reside(s)
there with his family. Time will tell. Keep in touch,OBTW,glockman99!

of course....

Y'know, the nearer your destination; the more you are...slip-sliding away. ;)

Congrats on the Ayoob. I wanna get me one o' them too. How does the handle feel besides the slickery-ish-ness-itude? I already like the curvey blade.

I haven't a problem with the "feel" of the handle ; If one has a good enough "grip" on it, it's "slickness" is IMO of little consequence this is just a "nuance";)
I say get one. Try :

www.eknifeworks.com (SMKW)

They had'em for about $50 ; WELL WORTH the price!;)

I also like "curved" blade(s) -or-
as forumite "Hawkbill" used to quip
on the Spyderco.com "home" forum :

curved blade = good

AET;)

Oh yeah,

Spyderco is my absolute favorite for curvey blades and small knives that fit my monkey-hands. Merlin/Harpy, Civilian, Matriarch, Ayoob, and Shabaria are all sweet curvey blades.

Well, I can't speak for the serrated edge... I don't like them. But, I do have this in the plain edge and absolutely love this knife. It is sharp as hell, and has great ergonomics. True, it was designed with SD as it's primary purpose, but I find the angle makes it a very easy slicer and cutter. This is the ONLY clip folder I carry and use. I whole-heartedly recommend this knife.

Very nice Spydie. ;)
However, I would prefer it in PlainEdge and with a "grippier" handle. The Micarta is beautiful, but it's a little slick for my tastes. It sure would have been nice if a version of the Ayoob had been produced with G10 handles in place of the Micarta, but from what I hear, the Ayoob model has been discontinued by Spyderco...:(

I'm glad the Spyderco Ayoob is getting some discussion here. Can't even say how many knives I own, but I have in mind what I call my "reach for" knives, based on need. And for defensive purposes I most often carry the Spyderco Ayoob. Mine is the fully serrated version which has been discontinued but I believe the plain edge version is still being produced by Spyderco. The handle material question is of no concern to me since I typically remove the pocket clips from these tactical folders and cover much of the handle surface with black grip/grit tape. I carry the knife either low in my waistband or in a coat pocket within easy reach. Also, after aquiring the Ayoob I took it apart, cleaned, lubricated, re-assembled and used blue loc-tite on the small screws, especially those around the pivot. As a result I can flick the blade open as easily as I can any other one-handed folder. The Ayoob is, however, one aggressive looking knife so it's best if nobody sees you're carrying it. Great utility knife also? Absolutely, but whip it out to help remove the knotted ribon attaching the pink baloon to the wrist of your neighbor's daughter and you may get a negative reaction.

HTMD :

How strange! My "Ayoob"'s SE as well,I don't bother with removing the pocket clip or so forth. Just one of Spyderco's/ Ayoob's better effort(s). Mine basically stays in my "museum" ( i.e. collection ) while the SE cricket ( 'Til death do us part ;)) and Merlin are my current EDC's, and will probably remain so.Good to give "positve press" to that which is richly deserving.;)

AET ;)
