I just read in the new Tactical Knives magazine that in the near future a Spyderco Bali is planned. Is there a prototype pic, is that new info or am I just slow? Paul

Hi Paul. It's been pretty much a fairly "quiet" development over the past year+. Carlos started the idea with a post on the balisong forum (Bladeforums.com) about whether or not the bali aficianados would support a Spyderco balisong.

Subsequent dialog on the bali forum led us to believe that there was sufficient interest to see if we could design one.

Spyderco used to be a balisong distributor for Pacific Cutlery Corp (back in the "old days" before Clipits), now Benchmade. My son, Eric is skilled at balsongs, so "we" designed and refined a model we're calling the "spyderFly". Showings have been somewhat private at shows to those that asked. Usually from prople from the balisong forum, primarily to get knowledgable feedback.

The first "public showing" was in Germany this past March where it was well received by the bali aficianados, despite the fact that they are illegal in Germany after April 1st. Fred Perrin did a phenominal demo (which Travis caught on tape).

We don't expect this to be carried often since balis are not legal to carry in many places. But they are legal to own and play with at home, which is where most "flipping" occurs.

Since the "action" began on the balisong forum (Bladeforums.com), I told the forumites there that the first public pic would be shown on their forum. Maybe I can pull something off at Blade Show?

We're currently engineering tooling and plan limited production late this year.

Well SAl, that is great! There are soooo many reasons to go to Blade this year, and here is another. We will be there and how to meet you! Thanks! paul

Hi Sal,

Is there any change that Fred Perrin video could be placed on line? I would love to see that, and I think I am not the only one.

Thanks,
JD
