I vaguely remember something like this being mentioned a while back...or is it just my imagination? I tried a search but got nothing. I've been away for a while so I'm just catching up...

Is there a possibility of a Balisong, and if its in the works are there any novel features planned?

And while I'm here, what's the word on the Military Jr? I've been holding my breath :( !

Cheers

Dom

Thanks.

I haven't had time to read the whole thread as its huge, but it looks promising.

Looks like the whole forum has pitched in, but here are the links for those who haven't seen them yet:

Isn't Spyderco great? People say "we'd like 'XXX'" or "I have 'YYY' problem" and they say, "Let's see what we can do..." :)

Looks like they beat me to 'my' magnetic latch idea by about 15 years though, and they've got around the 'latch drop' opening problem! ;)

No matter, I've got a couple more neat ideas up my sleeve!

Later,

Dom

You're entirely welcome. I said "back a few weeks", which has been on and off again true, but it keeps coming back to the top as new, interested parties notice it. There's considerable enthusiasm for this one. Right you are concerning their responsiveness to customers. To see a business respond to their customers like this amazes many of us "Forumites". Even if a given knife isn't economically practical, the fact the they (he) listen(s) is still most notable.

We have a small group of people kicking around designs. No conclusions yet.

Also, thanx for the kind words about Spyderco. We try.

If you do make a balisong, I will place an immediate order for at least two at my favorite cutlery store. Should you really go whole hog and make different blade styles, wee hawk, bowie, tanto, etc, of course I will have to have two of each of them. The thought of having a balisong with an arachnid instead of an insect on the blade really has me stoked. I am not slagging the other guys, I am just a big Spyderco fan.

I realize your product line is very large right now, and that you are paring it down. But a balisong would be an unique addition. I hope you decide it is a worth while project, even if you just do a limited run. Just please give your dealers enough advance notice to allow your rabid fans to get their fix.

Guys,
Trapped Sal at the Guild, you all should hear about the Bali,he has in mind! CRfan & guys, you "ALL" are too late ,I had Sal place ME down for order#1! ITS' GONNA HAPPEN GUYS!!

I sort of hid this over here to prevent a gold rush. If you have a "list" please feel free to put my name down for smooth and combo in each style/size (or however many sizes or styles you decide on). This order is good even with a bottle opener. Thank you.

You succeed! :D

I just got back from posting some design ideas on the Balisong Forum thread. Looks like I'm too late! Check it out though, as they're quite good :)

Sadly, living in a country with stupid-pointless-politcallymotivated-laws I will never be able to get one without "just a little harmless smuggling"

sigh

:(

Thus, by manufacturing the Spyder-bali, Mr. Glesser, you'll be saving lives. Have you determined the final shape yet, if it's not unfair of me to ask?

Hi. Thanx for the support. I really can't say much at this time. We are working on a design. That means that if we come up with a design that we're pleased with and is manufacturable, production would still be 6 months away.

I can that it is the support and comments from the forums and other Spyderco ELUs that has influenced us to proceed. Ya know, troublemakers like Carlos and the resulting comments.

While I frankly could care less about balisongs, I nevertheless am extremely impressed at Sal's willingness to listen, and even go farther. What other company does this? I sure haven't heard of any. While other companies occasionally come out with good knives, Spyderco is unique in it's relationship to its customers and fans.

Hey guys???? the way the Spyderco knives are designed/made, that has relegated the balisong/butterfly knives to the dustbin of cutlery history!!!:D

Hi Mykl. Just for the purposes of rumor control, yes, we are working on something. Still in development. Steady working on it though. Once we know we've got something we're satisfied with and we know we can build it, then we'll have more to say.

Thanx for the support and encouragement.
