I got to play with my buddy's southard the other day and it's a Great knife. He said it pivots on ball bearings. Since I Don't have the cash for a southard what is a cheaper Spyderco that pivots on bearings? Hopefully I can find one in my price range.

As of now the Sothard is the only one.

AFAIK the Southard is the first and so far the only one with a bearing pivot system.
You'd have to look at other manufacturers for something cheaper, for example at least some of CRKT's Ken Onion designs have bearings in them.

If the southard is the only one I guess I have No choice but to save up. Thanks for the info guys. I would look at other manufactures but Damn I love my Spydercos!

little off topic: I didn't realize that the Southard had a different pivoting system! I haven't been willing to pull the trigger either because of the cost, I may have to go up to the SFO to handle one and put it on my wish list if it's as awesome as everyone claims it to be

I have seen them for around $200 on here but I never have the cash when they pop up. Also How does the rocklobster stack up to the southard? The rocklobster just looks cool as heck.

I have a CRKT Eros, and the Ripple gets high praise as well, and is a beautiful knife. I like the Eros, but it's not even in the same league with my Southard.

The Southard is pretty awesome, but there are a whole bunch of inexpensive IKBS knives in CRKT's line that you could play with on the the cheap while you're saving. The aluminum linerlock Ripple flips easy and is only ~$25, for example.
