I'm a fan of Spyderco but not liner locks. With this said, I've never owned a Spyderco L.L. Are the Spydercos retaing their tension and locking up nicely after years of use? I almost got a military once but got a Manix instead. I also find the Barong attractive, except for it's 3/4 sharpened blade. Should I expect this new Spydi L.L. to give me years of reliability? I'm willing to pay more for a Spyderco because I get a great knife. I'm just leery about the lock set up.

I have eight Militaries, going back to when they were using ATS-34. Some of them have been used pretty hard, judging by the scratches in the blades and the wear on the G-10. The lock-up varies a bit from knife to knife, but the second best on all mine is an old 440V that has been used hard. If I recall correctly, the blade steel places it at a minimum of ten years old, and the lock looks to be ready for another twenty years of the same kind of use.

I haven't gotten a Barong in hand yet, but if the lock is half as good as the Military, you should get a good twenty years out of it easily.

Thanks buddy. I'll be watching the Barong pass around and or reviews with interest

Spyderco's liner locks are second to none in the industry.

I have no problem trusting them---rock solid, positive engagement every time.
