Just handled these knives for about a week during a passaround and used them lightly to get a feel for them.

Police3 G10:

I was initially so surprised by size of this folder. It's enormous! It's like a folding machete. The blade is really long, especially for the handle size. In using it, the FFG VG-10 is a good cutter, but the tip is kind of rounded for my sort of needs, because I do a lot of packaging.

The handle is comfortable and ergonomic, and it's a good looking knife both open and closed. It could easily be used as a kubaton or impact device, especially with my small(er) hands.

The one bad thing I can say about this knife is the deployment. It's hard to flick out without a good wrist flick. However, it was a very good opener with the thumb pivoting the blade the whole way.

The choil is one of my favorite Spyderco features, and the Police3 G10 features a nice one. It is nicely jimped, as is the thumbramp. I do wish the choil was more pronounced, like the Caly3.

Overall, the Police3 G10 is a great knife, but a little big for carry. If you're looking for a long folding knife with this blade length, the Police3 G10 is a good choice.

Barong:

I was SUPER impressed with this knife. The super smooth opening just blew me away. I had never opened a knife with that smoothness. It was like... glass and ice combined. Like no friction at all.

Plus, the liner makes a really nice sound when it locks. Really really nice sound.

The knife is a decent length, and it feels reasonable in the hand compared to the Police3 which is really big. The ergo's are perfect for me, but I can see them not being good for somebody with huge hands. The blade is a really nice leaf shape. It's really useful. I love the choil on the knife.

I love the negative blade angle too, it makes for easy, effortless cutting.

I don't really know what else to say, the knife is super comfortable, features a really nice FFG, good grippy g10 handles and a super blade shape. I need to get one of my own.

Nice review. Krein regrinds of each of these excellent factory blades make them another notch better IMO. I had my Police 3 thinned at the edge and the spine flattened to make the tip super pointy. Both mods make it a better knife for my needs. My Kreined Barong is a classic. The edge was brought another 1" or so back toward the handle, but left enough choil to choke up on it. It also had a thumb ramp ground into it along with spine swedges reminiscent of the Calypso. Add those features to the already excellent package of the Barong and you have my most used current EDC. I might put my reground Barong and a couple more Krein regrinds out on another passaround.

I really like the police 3. It's one of my all time favorite folders. It's one of a mere handful that I've liked enough to buy a spare of.

I would love a super steel sprint of this one ( preferably ZDP or M4), but that's more me being spoiled rather than my seeing any deficiency in the P3.

I'm right with you there on a ZDP 189 or M4 Police 3. I'd be on a pre order list as soon as it was announced. That blade is made for slicing, and super steel is just what that great blade needs.
