Spyderco bi-fold? What's the deal?

Why were these discontinued so fast and why do they seem to be damn near impossible to find for sale?

I would love to have one for my collection if anyone knows of anyone who may have one they'd part with. Otherwise i'm just curious why these things seem so rare. Limited production or maybe the fact it's "automatic"?

Been tempted a few times when they turn up on eBay or here but the CBSA would probably also ding it as a switchblade and be worried it could turn me into a juvenile delinquent.

the ones I have seen up go for over $300. Always wanted one but never had any luck.
