I trying to decide whether or not to buy a Spyderco Bill Moran Drop Point for hunting in New Zealand. Would the Spyderco be a good option or should I be looking at something else? Does anyone have an opinion on the Boltaron sheath?

From what I understand about the knife, having never handled one, it's ground very thin. This makes it perform like a razor, but some users have reported accidentally cracking the edge under stress, e.g. twisting the blade while cutting something heavy.

As much as I love my Spydercos, I'm not sure how comfortable I'd be using one as an outdoor fixed blade when there are more robust options out there.

However, for just skinning, if you don't plan on doing any non-knife tasks like prying with it, it should work out phenomenally well with Spyderco's grind, steel, and ergonomics.

I thought the moran was one of spyderco's fixed blades that excelled at that kind of work. I wouldn't hesitate on getting it. VG-10 steel is one my favorite steels and the blade is nice and thin - a definite plus.

Anyone know what the tang size is, I have looked at this for a long time - no funds - but someday maybe.
