What is the coating on a Spyderco Black Blade?

How can it be removed? Will solvents help?
If you were using sandpaper, what grit would you start with?

It's DLC, so it's pretty hard stuff. Don't bother.
Why would you want to remove it? You could probably trade it instead

Truthfully, I would rather not remove it, especially if it is real hard. After all, it protects the steel from corrosion, and I don't have a problem with the appearance. As long as the coating doesn't come off in my food.

My only concern is what my friends think because the black blade suggests that the knife is a weapon rather than just a tool.

I bought it because I got it pretty cheap and I don't have much spare change, and I was dying to get a Spyderco. It's a Delica.

I thought about trading it, but that adds another layer of complexity and uncertainty that I could do without, and extra expense.

Thanks for your help.

I looked up DLC and it means "Diamond Like Coating"?

Next time someone gives you crap about "weapon" or whatever , look at them like your examining an insect under a microscope.
Some people are dumb.
One of my Gerber MT's is all black.... weapon ?? whatever...

The Delica is a Seki knife. They have a different coating than the Golden-made Spydies so it's not DLC.

What is the coating on Seki knives? I have a black blade Temperance stamped Japan. Thanks for info. :)

Just say "it protects the blade from rusting".
Even if thats not technically true, blade being stainless and all, people who are ignorant enough to know that painting things black makes them weapons aren't going to know better.
