Such a beautiful knife. One of my favorite aspects of my Southard is that the stonewashing on the blade is so well done, so I'd kind of miss that with the blacked out version. That being said, I'll probably have to pull the trigger on this one.

Still wish it was a Golden product.........,,
Why? The only possible thing that would happen if it were a Golden product is that it would cost more . . . a LOT more . . . hence the name "Golden". ;)

Based on my experience, Spyderco could produce its entire line in Taichung and I'd keep buying Spyderco knives until the cows came home. That's just how well Taichung Spydercos are made.

PS: It might be interesting to do a scale swap on the new Southard. I think the coyote scale with the black blade would look really sharp. And thanks to Rit Dye, we already know what the black scale looks like on an original Southard. I wonder who's going to be the first to try that? :)

Hmm, or maybe someone with a bunch of different scales could buy one and see what they look like on it. Ordered mine from BHQ, shouldn't be too long before we see what an off-white scale looks like on a black Southard, among others. :)

That's funny, Greg. I was actually going to mention your name at the end of my post. I figured with your love of Southards and custom scales, you'd be the first to give it a try. :) By the way, I got a PM from Steve today. Looks like he's ready to get going on my Juma scale. See what you started? :D

Color me green with jealousy, because I don't have a PM from Steve about my two projects. ;)

(if you read this Steve, no rush, I'm just kidding)

Just found out that this particular model has TiCn Coating. Not too familiar with this coating... How does it compare to say the DLC on the Pm2s and other offerings?
Also noticed that TiCN coating is used on budget oriented blades (Gerber, Camillus, etc..)

yummmy black clip

titanium carbonitride ... can you guys tell me more about it? Is it a type of DLC? if not how does it compare?
