A few years ago I bought several knives. I really didn't know anything about knives and just bought them on the spur of the moment. I still don't know anything about knives thus the question. Are either of these of any special interest? Are they still in production? Neither has been used but Smith has some handling marks. Any other info would be appriciated. Thanks.
1) J.D Smith in box with code C58BMP. Blade measures about 4" with lockback. Scales appear to be micarta. Blade markes Japan and VG-10

2) Bob Lum in box with code C46P. Blade measures about 3 3/4" with liner lock. Scales appear to be stainless. Blade marked Seki-City and ATS-55

In a word, yes. :D
Both of those knives currently fetch premium prices, especially the Lum if it is actually titanium scaled.

Hey amvet,

Welcome to the forums. There is a Spyderco forum here at Bladeforums where you can find more information about these knives. Use the search function.

Both of the Smith and Lum Tanto have been discontinued by Spyderco. Usually when collaborating with another knife designer such as Robert Lum and J.D. Smith the models are not typically made for a great length of time. One or two years of production is fairly common.

The Lum Tanto is a real star of the Spyderco lineup and collector's item. The scales on your knife are titanium if they look like stainless. There was also a G-10 version of the knife made. The titanium version tends to be more collectible and its' value goes up and down around the $200 mark. Bob Lum designed a couple of other Spydercos, the Tanto Fixed blade and the Chinese model. Those are also pretty collectible.

The J.D. Smith is also collectible but not as much as the Lum has become. The plain edge version like you have tends to be more sought after. It is a very nice knife and would probably have a value in the $100-150 range.

Both are very nice knives.
