This seems to be very popular knife almost impossible to get. All I see in my favorite internet stores "Sold OUT" right when it appears in products list. But I manage to get one...

I was looking for this knife from the time when Sal just announced it several years ago - it suppose to be second ZDP-189 model after Calipso Jr. But it hits the market just recently. I guess after all this years (about 4 years?) of waiting it became much more desirable.

I am not sure why it called Chinese - really have no idea what is traditional Chinese knives are. Guess should be many different as China have many different nations inside... This one made in Seki city Japan. Quality is exceptional!

I test sharpness trying to whittle hair, and it does! This is second production knife which was able to do this with factory edge:

Knife appear to be bit smaller then I thought. It has 3" blade. Here it is near first Spyderco ZDP189 model - Callipso Jr.

Here it is with pretty similar Kabar Dozier D2:

Thanks for the picture review. This is one of the very few Spydercos I find esthetically pleasing and I wouldn't mind trying out...

It is beautiful. I wish they will made bigger variant - like 4" or 3 1/2" (better 4 and 3 1/2") with titanium handle, may be...

Thanks, Vassili.

Great looking knife! For a second I thought I was still in the For Sale area and I was getting all excited.

Thanks for the review.

You take great pictures! Thank you!
It is an elegant knife, light and sharp. Not meant for hard use.

Well, I am not going to chop wood with it (I guess I will chop wood with knife only if I do not have proper tool for this - axe), but for all tasks knife needed I think it will be just fine. I do not see really any weakness and it is my EDC now.

I just make lanyard and cut leather with it - nice accurate cut, I am not sure is it hard use or not. I think if it is sharpened and does not dull after few cuts - any use will not be hard. In this terms yes it is not designed for hard use, it will not give you hard time using it (unlike some other knives - truly made for hard use...).

This leather work require mostly sharpness to have nice even lace out of tooling leather. I make it bright red - I like bright colors on my toys. I guess I am not afraid to be seen as a child for quite some time, if my knife is not black or camo...

Thanks, Vassili.

Hi Vassili,

Thanx much for the great pics and kind words.

The "Chinese" comes from a traditional shape that has been common in China for many thousands of years. The shape was used in many sizes, both as fixed blades and folders.

This is certainly an "afi's" knife.

It sure took longer to get into prodcution than planned. Many Afi models do.

Thanks for the review and the pictures!

I just got a lime green/VG10 Lum Chinese from a friend who found it at a garage sale for thirty bucks!

Talk about a jack pot---enjoy yours! :D

I have one of the old ones in green, I really want one of the new ones in ZDP. Thank you for the pics and the review. I really love mine and rotate it thoroughly.
