It's no secret that I like Spyderco knives. I am NOT someone who has to have every sprint run of something or who is always looking for my next Spyderco. I am somewhat picky about what I like, but even when I like something enough to get it and keep it, I do like to make the knife "my own". One way to do that is by changing the scales on a knife. Disclaimer: Of course, you should know what you are doing and have the proper, high quality tools before even attempting such an undertaking, but with care and common sense, this can be done fairly easily.

Enter Aramis Akhmedov and my Yohimbo 2. Located in Russia, I had heard some good things about Aramis' scales and decided I would give him a try. I am very happy I did!

After checking out his website (www.aratech.ru) as well as a myriad of pics of his work in various corners of the Internet, I contacted him at aratech@mail.ru on 4/2/18. I asked what he could do for me in the way of some scales for my Yojimbo 2--price, material, color options, and wait time. Despite his website being in Russian, his English is very good. He was very quick to respond and thoroughly answered my questions.

My scales arrived today (less than 3 weeks since I ordered them!!!) and they are superb in every way. I cannot recommend him highly enough. If I understand things correctly, he doesn't have a lot of model variations, but the limited designs he does make are awesome. From here on out, I will let the pics do the talking and you can decide for yourself.

In these first few pics, you can see how his scales have a slightly different profile than the original Yojimbo 2 scales. Also, his edges feel softer than stock edges, making the scales ultra-comfortable in hand. Please note that the color of the scales is not accurately represented as these first two pictures were taken with my POS cell phone camera.

These next pics more accurately reflect the true color of the scales. Full-on blue, no "blurple" stuff here!

Nice! Love the look a little contouring adds to these Spydies. I've seen quite a few examples of his contoured PM2 scales on IG, just excellent.

I was actually psyched to see the first photos with the teal colored scales. You don't see enough teal knife scales, haha. The actual blue is more what I'd carry, though.

The contours remind me of what's on my 0900. With a full grip your finger tips actually lock into the top edge. That's gotta make for one helluva grip.

These are awesome! The yojimbo is already a great knife and hard to improve on. How are the ergos of the new scales vs the old ones?

I prefer the new scales to the original. They are a little more filling at the back of the knife and the contouring of the scales makes it feel very comfortable in hand. I had no issues with the ergos of the original scales; I just prefer these more.

bought a set of olive drab PM2 scales from him off the auction site myself. perfect craftsmenship . Fast shipping considering where they are coming from !! better than stock grips in everyway . worth every penny .

love the blue/black contrast absolutely stunning!!
