Spyderco BushcraftUK Photo Comparison Set

I really like this back-ground, it is the decaying paint on a Plymouth Fury RSVP, wonderful stuff.

Really hilights the look of the handle. The feel is indescribable until you grab onto it though :)

great stuff Marion... the Spyderco BCUK knife is one of the most comfortable blades i own...:) i love it... i have been meaning to make another sheath for it soon..

Does anyone know if they are going to do another run with a handle in a non spalted wood?

Seems bizarre to me that anyone would have choosen a wood that has inherent weakness (like partially rotten wood, aka spalted), unless of course they reckon that most purchasers won't be using the knife & are more interested in its' looks :D

Kind regards
Mick

True, too true.

Yeah, as soon as I can do leather, which will be sometime after my wedding, I will make a western cut sheath for one of mine, just for the practice, if nothing else.

I actually like the stock sheath, makes for great baldric carry, which is what the bright rope is doing there. I carry mine that way all the time, as I don't wear a belt.

I would have included images of that, with my brother as a model, but my camera did not remember that I took those images.... Wait, I just found them... It will be a few minutes while I process them....

The next run, which should be available in about 5 months, will be the same steel 01, with G-10 handles (and the skeleton hole in front of the front rivet will be gone), I held one at the Eugene show, and it was nice.

They got bad information, and they paid for it, to say the least. But, luckily they are still steaming ahead, and have lost none of their commitment to the model.

Best,
Marion

That's such a nice handle. Looks comfortable.

Yeah, it is pretty awesome, though a bit big, even for I.

Carry images (modeled on my svelte brother, so as to avoid losing the knife in the background)....

As you can see, with cord/rope run through those two eyelets, it hangs really well...

And, if you want to hitch it up, you just take the free end (which goes through the top eyelet) and wrap it around the body, and tuck the stopper knot into the wrap...

One might carry it in the low position for general use, but whilst sitting in a car, or wearing a coat, you might want it higher. This rigging system does both pretty well.

Best,
Marion

PS - I know it is out of character for a guy who sells sheaths to tell you that the stock sheath is nice, but I guess my contrarian side won out... : )

G'day Marion

This same model without the hole in the blade and a tougher handle material?

Seems to me it might be worth considering (especially considering how most have described the handle as very comfortable)

Kind regards

Not the hole in the blade, but the hole under the handles, just forward of the first rivet. This is where savagewhoever broke his... So, they removed it from future runs.

And the handle is quite nice.

Bugger :(

They are going to keep that good for nothing (except trade mark identifying) hole in the blade?

IMO, that's a real pitty :thumbdn:

After some work on the handle material, I find that I really do like my Spyderco Bushcraft blade.
It performs just as it should, with tasks that I apply it to when out in the woods.

The sheath is 'ok', but I am sure I'll replace it before too long. I do like the carry option that MDP shows, and I will be trying that out today. By the way MDP, how long is that cord?

well, being bored, I went ahead and got a skein of Paracord, and got to work.
This is what I came up with. Fully adjustable, and easy.
One of the best reasons for hanging out here is learning really useful things. Thanks Marion for the tip.

I like mine. One of the sharpest knives I've ever owned. Cut you just looking at it sharp. If the handle fails after I worked on it, I will ship the blade to one of our many talented makers for a new one. And maybe a new sheath too.

Thank you! and you are certainly Welcome!

Good images. The Spyderco bushcrafter 'seconds' will be one of those deals that we'll call the good 'ole days. It was quite a bargain and easy enough to fix the problems.

What model Mora was the wood handled one in the fifth image? Looks like it has a good handle on it.

As to the seconds, you are just not kidding... I missed them from Spyderco, and I have absolutely haunted the F/S board to get these.... The first one went to my brother who was just gagging for it... Then I PM'd a guy on a Withdrawn sale, just in case, and a couple days later he PM'd me back, and I got it. Then, my brother went "koo koo for coco puffs" on the fact that the handles were off, and now I have his. But, these two have found their home, now.

Ya know, I don't know what model it is.... I am doing the photography for the late great James K Mattis's daughter, who will be reviving Chai Cutlery, and this is one I am photographing for her, so that she can sell them.

I, of course, will be keeping this one.... I really like it, which is funny, because I have never really connected with the style... But, I am growing as a collector, and learning to appreciate new things...

The sheath is only barely sufficient, but I am PM'ing Brendan about making me one...

Best,
Marion

Very nice! And neat that they'll be coming back around. That model looks to have a larger handle. Holler at me if you figure out which one it is.

Yeah, good stuff.

It does seem to have a larger handle, but I am not expert in these...

I have very little chance of figuring out which one it is, Sharon inherited all his knives, but very little information, as of course, James knew it all, and did not need to write it down. : ) PM inbound, with respect.

Best,
Marion
