Good job, thanks for the pics. Looks like the beginnings of an impressive shelter.

Looks like a great area to mess around and have fun. It's a bit off topic and boring for some, but I have to ask about the tree (what kind?) and stream (any fish? what kind?). You're a good father for getting your boy out there, away from electricity, and teaching him some useful and fun skills.

Oh, one more thing... what kind of cups are those and what are they propped up on top keep them out of the coals directly?

The tree is a juniper,we live in central oregon which is a high desert. There
is no stream near by.It's close to home 5min. away.it's my old Army National Guard training area for 18 yrs.The cups are canteen cups, the close one is on the stand designed for canteen cups made by Pac-Fab.My sons is a Espit stove.Just for information sake my son had to gather the wood organize it into various types(tinder, light kindling, kindling, small fuel) he did pretty good.then he had to start the fire and maintain for cooking.he lit it with two matches the kicker was he got to use my brand new BushcraftUK making shavings.Of course now he wants one:D

You take good pictures too, that's always a plus. The only thing missing is a good dog. You could start your own blog w/ posts of your outings and bushcraft skills.

Thank you for the kind words,I try to post my outings to share my experiences
with everyone.

Nice one Tyrantblade!
we are neighbors. central oregon living is good stuff.
keep up the bushcraft.

The tree is a juniper,we live in central oregon which is a high desert.

Interesting, I know it could be just about anywhere, but I immediately was reminded of the high desert mountains of New Mexico, where I live.

I looks 1)Dry and 2) Cold.

Beautiful country though.

The great thing about Central Oregon is in Redmond (Junipers) where I live to the west
20 miles is Sisters,OR (Ponderosas) and to the southwest I can get into the Cascades
(South Sisters 10,363')for a Bushcrafter it's a perfect training area and beautiful to boot;)
The picture was taken in the BLM/National Guard training area east of the Redmond airport.

just south of Lewis glacier lake at about 7900' looking south
