Would you folks care to help me? I want to confirm the current match-ups, fill in the blanks, add anything I may have missed, and confirm where there actually is no counterpart (past and present models). I could potentially do all of it by myself, but I thought crowdsourcing the Spyderco community here would be both more fun and less work for me. :D

When I got to the Wings-Dyad, I started asking myself what if Spyderco could use the byrd line to resurrect discontinued Spyderco models? I don't know much about the industry, but I imagine the byrd line takes less resources when you consider that the designs are essentially borrowed and that the materials involved and fit and finish generated are at the more economical level. Relatively speaking, it wouldn't be hard to dust off an old design from the Spyderco vault every now and then to give it a byrd run. The benefits would include appeasing the nostalgic Spyderco enthusiasts, introducing some of the more unique Spyderco designs to the people who otherwise wouldn't have ventured into the more expensive knives (I understand that that is the niche of the byrd line), and maybe testing the waters for general interest in older models.

I dunno. :yawn: My idea might be way out there, but I enjoyed ruminating on the thought. For me, I wish I knew more about Spyderco before the Barong was discontinued. Maybe one day I could see it as the byrd... Heron.

Interesting Idea. I believe the starling has a cutting edge of 1.75 inches and the finch has a cutting edge of 1.5 inches. The ladybug is in between those two somewhee in the neighborhood of 1.68 inches. so maybe both the Starling and Finch should equate to the Ladybug.
