This knife commemorates the " Patrouilles Des Glaciers" a race sponsored
by the Swiis Army.
"The Patrouille des Glaciers is the most renowned competition in the high mountains of all. The course will take the teams through the night, from Zermatt across the Swiss Alps to Verbier, conquering a distance of 55 km and a difference of altitude of 4000m - and the best teams make it in less than 8 hours for a total distance of a approximately 110 km.
The Swiss Army organizes this most extreme, and certainly unique, high mountain race. All civil and military mountain sportsmen are allowed to participate, but due to security reasons, the number of teams/patrols ("patrouille") is usually limited to 700, with a total of 2,100 athletes at the start."
