i have a frn byrd cara cara 2 and one day i decided to take the pocket clip off however the screws just pulled right out !! is the pocket clip screw only into the frn causing the screws to strip the threading ? i really love the knife and dont mind carrying it in my pocket (current edc) but im also wondering what are some other sub 25 dollar knives that are good quality i would also like a small neck knife in that price range as well, any suggestions ?

Take a look at... well, all of Kershaw's budget offerings. I would stay away from the super-budget knives made with 3Cr steel though. The Ontario Utilitac 2, Rat 1 and 2, and the ESEE Zancudo/Avispa get a lot of praise around here from the budget-minded. Some of those are into the $30-35 range, but you get a considerably better knife than a Byrd (IMO).

As far as super-budget neckers are concerned, the only one that comes to mind is the CRKT Folts Minimalist. The steel is kinda garbage though, I would pony up another $10 or so and get a Becker BK14 or BK11 instead.

There should be steel liners inside the FRN handles same as the G10 models. Those are the only things that have threads for the pocket clip screws(I believe the liners are only like 1/16- 3/32" thick). If they are stripped try adding some loctite to add some mass, or maybe nylon tape/thread tape, and if all else fails gorilla glue works pretty well.

For budget neck knives I'd have to echo the above. Shell out a little more and go with a BK11/14. Both are quite solid and very popular so added attachments like handle scales and better sheaths are around. There is also the relatively new Brous Blades designed SOG Snarl and the Boker Gnome.

i forgot to mention i also live in canada so the prices are jacked way beyond what they should be. but i was also looking at the kabar adventure piggy back knife which runs at 10.00 dollars at my local knife store, are they any good ?

The Utilitac II is a fantastic value. Every time I open it up to use I can't believe it is a $25 knife.

I like the design but the steel could be better and the recurve, like all recurves, could be a challenge to those who aren't used to sharpening them.

If you wanted to try the necker design I would say it's worth it just to see if you can deal with skeleton knives/neck draw etc. If all else it can become a new test knife for new sharpening instruments, something to throw around. a tool box knife etc.
