Spyderco c36 Military: PE or SE?

I plan to pick up a Military as my next knife purchase. I will be doing drywalling this summer. The 50/50 has been suggested, but I wish to go full edge...

For heavy use this summer, should I get the Serrated or Plain edge? It will be paired with a c28 Dragonfly(SS/PE), a c52 Calypso jr lt(plain(left/front)) and either a Muela 4" skinner OR a CRKT BearClaw(plain).

I sharpen to 30 for most of my Plain edge knives, then finish with a few strokes at 40 with the mediums. My Delica gets 40 for heavy use, but won't be enough knife for that kind of use.

The Military will be used as EDC afterwards, as I carry a 4" fixed now and don't get any complaints about it. It will be used..

I'd say go with the spyderedge, you seem to have a few plain edge blades anyway and its always good to have a serrated one in case you need to make a quick cut through a rope or something of that nature. Also i believe the Spyderedge Military has a plain-edge portion at the tip for any finer cutting tasks.
Good luck. ;)

Another vote here for the SE in heavy use. Coupled with the S60V steel, the SE Military really has bite. As Mathew said, there is just enough plain edge portion at the tip to facilitate some tasks in which you may need a PE blade.

I have both and I just love the bite my serrated military has. I have plenty of plain edge knives but this is my heavy user. By the way, this isn't 50:50 serration. It goes almost up to the tip.

Hi Greg - Just to clear up any confusion, the 50:50 serration is a pattern that has been or is set to be released for 2002. See here for the announcement from Sal.

Ok, seems like SE is the way to go... all 3 forums tell me that, but had to get another group of ppl.

I prefer the straight edge but I got a serrated one ,brand new one on E-Bay for $65.00. I am very happy with it.

Another vote for the full SpyderEdge.

I have an Delica SE in VG-10, and I've put it through some serious cutting chores.

The edge just does not seem to go dull!!!

I bought the serrated edge a while back, but I wish i had got the plain edge. Why? Easier sharpening is the #1 reason. The serrated edge works really well on big, tough cuts, but I think the plain edge, sharpened to a rough edge, would work almost as well, with greater neatness in areas like whittling, etc. A plain edge is also much easier to sharpen in the field, though it doesn't hold an edge as long as serrated. My .02; take for what it's worth. :)

Another vote for the Plainedge. I don't mind the Spyderedge but I do feel the PE will provide in a much more practical sense. Not only that but as was previously mentioned, the PE is easier to maintain.

Life by the Knife

PE is better. Imagine opening letter? I believe other daily tasks will require more PE than SE. I have a 50:50 balisong and also PE one. Ended up having the PE one as EDC.

You might want to refer to Fred Perrin's review on that (tips: go to www.balisong.net, choose who's who on left panel and click the link to Perrin's page, enter the site and choose review)

My Military has about 10% plain spot up front that EASILY allows
finer tasks to be accomplhised. Go for it, I love the serrations, and for this size knife, once you can sharpen them up nice, or even send it back to Spydie once a year...you'll be SET!
