Hi all, new to the forum with an opinion question...

Does anyone out there use this knife? What do you think of it?

Thanks,

Ken

I happen to like the Spyker myself. I have heard from a lot of my Spyder brothers & sisters that the lettering on the blade really turns them off. But I personally think it is a great collaboration between Spyderco and Kershaw. They truly did combine the best of both worlds. I never really liked "re-curves" until the Spyker.

I am currently trying to run down a user version of the knife so I don't have to use the brand new one I have in my collection. G-10 handle, S30V blade steel with a great pocket clip. I love that overall design. I would like to see a couple more serious recurves from the Great Spyder Factory.

Gotta throw in my 2 cents :D No I don't own one. My personal opinion is life is too short to carry a knife that ugly. Sorry guys, it had to be said. It may work great, it might even be the ULTIMATE knife, but to me it is uglier than homemade soap. :barf:

I think it looks good. Handled one and thought it felt good. Didn't care that it had writting on the blade and find such writting great in determining what knife model it is.

You made a good purchase IMO.

I love mine. It is a good knife and in my opinion looks great. Once I oiled it and set the pivot it is one of my most flickable knives. The blade is beautiful in my opinion.

I do wish they had not put the letters on the blade. I really don't worry about them as the scratches from a wetstone have uglied up the blade anyway. I carry this knife about once a week. Sturdy little knife IMO.

And yablanowitz my homeade soup looks beautiful.

I must have played with a dozen of these things, and liked them all. The G10/carbon fiber combo looks incredible.

But here's an example of my retardedness:

I only just NOW realized that Spyker comes from Spyderco+Kershaw
Spy(derco)Ker(shaw)

Man. I suck.

Great input, thanks! (A-M, I didn't get that either.... Thanks!)

How is it to sharpen?? I have both the Spyderco and Lansky systems AWA several different stones. It looks like it would be tricky with those curves?

I found one for $160... Good price?

Thanks again,

Ken

I hear a lot of people say that the Spyker is ugly. OK, I kind of see what they are saying; but I have to say when I was first starting to look at possible Spydie knives to buy that was one of the first I considered (thinking that all the OTHERS were ugly).

So, what makes the Spyker "ugly"? Is it just the lettering on the blade (which I do hate)? I personally like the G-10 and CF handle a lot.

As for $160 ... I don't think it's too bad, but the internet retailer I always check first has it for (a little) less.

It isn't ugly, just different. It will not be hard to sharpen on a lansky or sharpmaker. I do have problems using it on my edgepro, however.

I am basing my assessment of the Spyker on the Quality of the construction and the overall function aspects of the knife. The Adventura was a good intro for Spyderco's "recurve" blade sector. But the Spyker is a serious recurve capable of some pretty tough work.

I agree with YAB that it is not one of their more aesthetically appealing knives compared to some of their other classics but from a standpoint of functionality I don't know of but maybe one of the liner lock model out of their production line that could compare with it.

Plus the blade design is a great one too. I just wish people would look at the big picture. But then on the other hand if a guy don't like a knife for some reason then probably nothing will win you over to it.

Thanks JD, must just be me but I really like the looks of that blade. It just calls to you, ya know?

Appreciate the input.

Ken
