Anyone have this knife? I lost my Delica in Kohl's yesterday (great store; one of my faves for casual clothes)! That was my standard carry knife! Everywhere I went, I had that thing on me ('cept school, of course)! Grr! Now I have to replace it. I'm considering the lightweight Calypso Jr. and the Rookie. Each has its "advantages" over the other. Anyone have both and a preference? Especially in the comfort department.

Thanks
Howie

Nice Knife. I bought one about a month ago and have used it quite a bit. Super sharp out of box. Great lockup (no vertical play) when pressing down as on my older Micarta Calypso. The handle & clip really hang on to my pocket(may help reduce loss).

I cut quite a bit of hardwood the other day and found that the edge dulled quite a bit slower than my older Calypso. Sharpening was really easy.

I think this knife is an excellent replacement/upgrade for the Delica

I agree that it's a nice knife. My only criticism with it would be handle texture. It's not uncomfortable, but I personally think that the fish scale pattern is unnecessarily aggressive.

I coated mine with a polyurethane finish to avoid shredding my pockets. I wouldn't recommend doing that with other Zytel handled knives, as polyurethane looks cool but is very slick. It works well with the Calypso Jr. Lightweight though: the handle texture is so rough to start out with that it's still grippy after a coat of polyurethane.

I prefer the light weight, VG-10 alloy and the blade design of the lightweight Calypso Jr. This knife is a distinct step up in class and performance.

I've had two lightweight Calypso Junior knives. I was impressed with the VG10 steel....very sharp right out of the box...so typical of Spyderco. I did not get to use either of them much as they both had vertical blade play. This was very noticable when applying pressure against the lock by pushing downward with the blade. With all the praise for this model, I wonder if I am the only one who has had this experience. I hope so, as I greatly admire the Spyderco operation....but frankly, I've gone sour on low end handle material like FRN/Zytel, no matter what type of steel blade is riveted to it. Sorry, it's just how I feel.

So it sounds like the Calypso is great, but I might be better off with the Rookie? Does it afford a good grip? I'd check it out at a knife shop, but I haven't seen any of either in Charlotte.

Thanks again
Howie

Howie - if you'd ever come to a Charlotte show with us you'd be able to see a decent selection!

The G-10 Rookie sells for @ $43 or so at the Metrolina show. I had a Lightweight Calypso Jr., but sold it before using it. I like different things about each of the smaller Spydercos that I've had (including a Delica98), and would be hard pressed to choose just one. They're all priced within a few bucks of each other, so the Rookie is probably the best value with the G-10 handles and Wegner-like construction. Then again, the VG-10 flat ground blade on the Calypso...
