If anyone is still looking for one of the Calypso Jr.s in zdp-189, there is one for sale on E-Bay with a couple days left to bid. I just picked up mine at a place called Fur, fin and feather in Ashland OH. Paid 79.00 for it and its worth every penny. Guy that sold it said no one wanted it because of the funny red handle. Maybe I should have dickered a little. LOL The e-bay number is 6601159169. Now I just have to wait for the Delica with the blue handle.

The one on the bay has a rediculus reserve.

I've been meaning to get to Becks. Tried once, but it was prime time traffic time and I missed it somehow.

I have 2 as well. 1 is ALWAYS on me, and the other is put away, in my knife roll. GREAT knife! I LOVE mine!! I have said in other posts, that I am incapable of leaving the house without it!!

Not being all that familiar with the availabilty of each and every model of knife, could you guys please tell me if (as is stated on the EBay site) this particular knife is a "rare/no longer made/collector", piece?

If that is true, will this knife be worth $500.00.....or some other crazy number?

Dan

I doubt it will get to $500, since spyderco will be coming out with more models (delica, endura) in that steel.

Spydercos are only collectible where there's a market and the spyderco market is not at all steady. If you get a collector who wants to fill a niche, lets say they collect all spydercos or all delicas, you can get real bucks, otherwise, you'll generally not get more than what you paid for it. What makes the delica hot is the steel, the hype and the collector frenzy. This won't last if ZDP comes out in more models or is found to be a poor choice. The after market can dry up pretty quick. Fin/Fur/Feather is a sporting goods store, with probably very few sypderheads coming in. Why pay more for a red handle and some fancy steel when the other model is cheaper and will work just as well. Fin/Fur/Feather won't dicker, been there, tried that, but they do discount when something doesn't sell, so go back and shop their sales.

Like I said when I started this thread, I have one of the zdp's, caly jr. The guy on e-bay says his has a collector number. I can't find a number other than the number designating knife pattern on mine. Does anyone else have a number on theirs?

Mine has the number "049" next to the gold spider emblem on the blade. I don't know if this is a collector number or, just a serial number. Actually, I have never heard of "collector" numbers therefore I suspect that the number you are referring to is just a serial number. Probably a serial number of a specific production run.

I agree with what "brownshoe" said about collecting. Buy the knife to satisfy and enjoy the hobby (or obsession). Buying even the better brand production knives like Chris Reeve for "collector value" is very risky.

I really, really love my Caly. Jr. It IS an awesome knife, with amazing cutting power. I WILL be getting a Delica in ZDP, as well as the Jess Horn.

Yes, how much would anyone spend? How many people are tracking the ZDP on Ebay? It seems it is going to go for a ridiculous amount, but will devalue quickly as the steel becomes more common! Brownshoe you got it right.

The final bid was 152.50 and the reserve wasn't met! I wonder why it went so high, especially considering that the seller has low feedback. Do the serial numbers usually add much value? I've never imagined that they would.

It's got the hype of the moment going for it.

Just like those $200 806D2_s you see on the bay.

Give it awhile, prices will probably drop to the $100 range.

Well, eBay is pretty much the only place to buy a 806D2 anymore. It's a cancelled AFCK in D2. What do you expect? :D
