Just telling ya guys spyderco is selling their Calypso Jrs for only $35!. Brought to my attention by Zerileous. Hope you enjoy yours, they're DCed now!

i just ordered mine today, i had been looking for a reasonable priced high quality left pocket EDC (i am a lefty, and the flip i have to do when carrying my leek left pocket negates the speed of the speed safe, plus 440a isnt that great of an EDC steel)
...and now, i wait.

I got it! :D :D :D (with a baseball cap in addition, for that price I couldn't resist ;)) (yesterday approx. 23:00 GMT+1)

Just as a side note, that particular Calypso Jr. model is discontinued, but in the Spyderco forum Sal (the CEO of Spyderco) has announced that the Calypso Jr. will be made in a different color and different steel.

I must confess Carlos is accurate.

There are, in the works, a Burgundy FRN Caly jr in ZDP-189 and a midnight blue FRN Delica in ZDP-189. This permits a more cost effective offering which gives more ELUs an opportunity to try this extra-ordinary Hitachi steel.

Current plans are for one run each of 1200 pcs. Due in the early summer.

Performance in our testing put ZDP in the same range of edge retention as S90V.

sal

Please make a cf calypso jr or the paramilitary in ZDP-189

Either way, I must say pick up a Calypso Jr. at that blow out price! It is definitely worth it.

I guess it's only my first Calypso Jr.

One of the best ever. They were only a limited run anyhow, but it is sad to see them go. WAY better than any delica, IMHO.

I'm sure we will have future runs in various forms, since everyone keeps demanding more caly Jr's ;)

Great..now I'm afraid of using my Calypso Jr for a fear of ruining the edge when i sharpen it

Great little knives for the money and then some! Flat grind for nice slicing in the kitchen, the size of the knife is just right for easy carry. I got one for Christmas and love it.

Don't worry if you can't find one there are plenty of them still floating around for sale right now.

Klattman, down to two. Sold one to spyken and I only had 3 to begin with (unless... I scrap together $100 for the ZDP version)

Yeah, the ZDP version (at 60++ Rc) is very interesting...though I will miss the inexpensive version.

Seems like all the spydies I like are becoming rare and the new ones I want are getting more and more expensive (ZDP Caly, Kopa, etc). I guess Sal know's what we like! ;)

Love this thing. sharp light... and most of all it passes threw material very well... something even a razorsharp knife with a thick spine cant to very well.

I had heard about the possibility of a ZDP-189 Calypso, but didn't know it was a certainty....Burgundy!!!!!!
That is amazing!!!!

I don't care much about a handle color change, as long as it's in good taste (which it will be), but the VG-10 steel is perfect for that blade and should NOT be changed. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
BTW, eBay has the Jr. for $30 or less every day. Got mine for $22 NIB. Love it to death.

Yes, but ZDP189 will be Rc 65 AND still be tough. Harder means you can thin out the edge evn further

I agree with you on the VG10, but Sal wants to make an _affordable_ knife with this new ZDP steel. I would have to say the CalyJr. has one of the best performing blade shapes ever, so I think it's a perfect platform for trying a new steel.

The current calypsoJr. was a limited run anyway, it wasn't a permanent part of the line-up (though I too wish it was).
