Just got the Spyderco Captain today and on the box and blade it has the number 101,which I have not seen on other captains, the number is to the left of the spyderco bug on the blade does anyone know what that number means? Also please give any feedback on the knife ,thanks.

That is a Collector's Club number. Since there is no V after the number to denote variation of existing model, it means it was part of the first run of a new model. 200 pieces of each new model and variation will carry CC numbers. Several dealers have multiple CC numbers to ensure they will receive at least a few pieces of each new variation, even sold out Sprint Runs.

Sorry I can't give you any first hand info on the Captain other than it isn't my cup o' tea.

unless 101 is special to you it means nothing. It wont add value to the knife. if you had a complete collection in one number Id imagine that may be worth a bunch to a few people.

The number really isn't of significance, except that the knife was part of the Collector's Club series. As mentioned above, it probably won't add value to your knife, unless it was one of the first handful produced (e.g., 1).

The Captain is a decent knife, but the angles and severe recurve in the blade design make you have to think twice about your cut and how to execute it, because of their uniqueness compared to other knives you might carry. It was certainly a unique design for Spyderco, and isn't necessarily a bad one. I hope you enjoy it and can find it useful; I myself like its handles!

Congratulations on the new knife. :)

tHANKS ,that helped out! I used the captain today with cooking and so far I have no complaints, the angles and the two different curves work very well with cutting up food! Im sure this knife will not make a very good edc but I will give it a try with different task and once again thanks for clearing that up for me!
