I have heard before that the "carbon fiber" that spydero uses is really just g10. Is this true?

No. This is not true. I've owned many G10 knives and several Spyderco carbon fiber ones and I can confirm they are not the same.

Some Spyderco models use actual carbon fiber scales, while others use flat G10 with a carbon fiber sticker over the top.

Where on Earth did you hear that? Probably from someone that knows little to nothing about the topic. There are different kinds of CF available, they come in sheets, blocks, tubes, and pins. Some of the sheets have a texture pressed into them during manufacture. That would be what is called "Peel-Ply" CF. Pass the knowledge along.

I believe that's been posted in relation to the Sage 1 and Gayle Bradley, that the CF weave only goes through the outer portion. I'm pretty sure I can see the CF through the bottom side on my GB, but others claim that's wrong.

My understanding is that the cf like the cf used on taichung models is a layer of peel ply cf over g10

That is what I have heard, too. My Taichung models (Gayle Bradley and Terzuola slipit) have the appearance of a layer of CF over G10. Of course, appearances can be deceiving, but that is what it looks like.

My Golden models (S90V Millie and UKPK) and Seki model (Caly 3) are definitely solid CF.

My carbon fibre scaled Stretch ZDP189 has a matte finish which has the appearance and feel of G10.

Just wondering, is the spyderco navaja solid CF? I've heard it was, but since lambertiana posted that his Taiwan models are not, I'm wondering if they use the same carbon fiber on the navaja.

I just got the Laci Szabo folder , Taichung made , and reading the description how can this be anything but CF (with exception of the thin layer of "gold-colored wire" why thats metal , as far as I can understand it.)??

I mean the wording is pretty clear , right ?

The Szabo’s handle is constructed of full stainless steel liners capped by Gold Line carbon fiber scales. This striking material combines the strength and light weight of carbon fiber with an outer layer of embedded gold-colored wire.

Those of you with Taichung models will notice when you remove the scales and look at the reverse side, and bevels, that it is in fact G-10 with only a thin layer of CF on the front side.

AFAIK, the Golden and Seki models are the real deal.

On the GB you can easily tell its a layer, but it's not a sticker.. Just a thin layer.
My m390 military is def all carbon fiber.

That's odd. The scales on my Gayle Bradley looked like carbon fiber from the back when I had them off.
