I'm itching to add a Spyderco to my EDC knife group. And I think my first Spyderco will be a Centofante 3 or Delica 4.

The Centofante is only 1/4" longer in closed length, same weight, and the blade is just 1/4" longer, but has a 3" cutting edge vs. about 2 1/2" cutting edge with the Delica. The blade on the Centofante looks like a better cutter with 1/2" longer cutting edge. And the look of the blade on the Centofante appeals more to me. Centofante blade is 1/64th" thinner than the Delica (2mm vs. 2.5mm). Both blades are VG-10. Price isn't much different.

The nods I would give to the Delica are 1/64th" thicker blade and that it's put together with screws vs. rivets, so it could be disassembled if need be. Though I may never need to disassemble the knives.

The nods I would give to the Centofante are 1/2" longer cutting edge for comparable size and (to me) a better looking blade.

I'm kinda stuck between these two knives... perhaps your greater experience can help me decide.

SO... which would you prefer and why? Centofante 3 or Delica 4 ?

id go for the centofante, the delica/endura design is much more suited to the size of the endura
i like the overall design of the centofante more too

I've only handled a Centofante once, but I think the D4 is a more heavy duty knife. I like that it has liners, and I like that I can disassemble it and adjust the pivot if I have to. The Centofante is probably a better slicer, though, with its thinner blade profile.

I had a waved Delica and own a Centofante 4. I think the posts here have hit on most of the important differences: blade length/thickness, riveted v. screw construction, user serviceability v. non-serviceable.

I would add that I personally find the Centofante scales more attractive, especially with the palladium bug inlay. However, I found that the volcano texture and jimping molded into scales on the Delica made it easier to grip, especially when wet.

I guess your decision basically boils down to whether you want a slightly tougher, work oriented knife or a classier, more delicate slicer. Only you can decide which one is right. I will say that I'd wager dollars to donuts that Spyderco probably sells 10 Delicas for each Centofante. Plus, there are more options with the Delica regarding serrations, blade steel and wave options. Both are great knives though and amazing values. You can't really go wrong with either.

Yep, I agree with all the above. Delica 4 is the better, more durable knife, but the ergonomics and size of the Centofante III are nicer. If I had to choose between the two, I'd go for the Delica 4. I have both though.

The Centofante 3 is one of my favorite knives. The way it feels in the hand (As long as you're not wanting to use it with wet hands or gloves), how well it cuts, its looks... best thing going from Spyderco's lineup at its price point. I've never felt the need to own a Delica.

The C3's not a super heavy work knife, but nor is it a delicate flower.

I've never held a C3, but I have both a C4 and D4. I really like them both but despite the fact that I really like wharncliffe blades for EDC, my D4 sees more pocket time. Its just one of my favorites.

You could compromise and wait a month or so for the full flat ground delicas to come out, they will be in grey, blue, purple, brown and one other color that I cant remember. The flat grind should slice about as well as the centofante, but it will still have the ergos and strength of the delica.

Everything depends on your needs. But I would take Cento3 over Delica at any time.
IMHO Cento3 looks and cut much better. Delica is stronger. Still, my friend handled huge home improvement project. He use C3 to cut anything, of cause got some chips (Delica would chip as well cutting his staff), but this is stones for. It is nice to have screw contraction, but it is not most important for me.
So C3 won in my book.

It does depend on what you want it for.

I no longer have a Centofante 3, but have the 4 (Wharncliffe blade) & I have a couple Delica 4's with ZDP blades (One's a swapped G-10 Delica ZDP).

Based off my experience, the Centofante's a better slicer & is lighter. The Delica's stronger, slightly heavier, & heavier duty.

Both are very good, though.
