Anyone have experience with this knife? I know it has a VG10 blade, but how does it rate overall?

If you're referring to the new Centofante III, I bought one and I like it very much.

I did a small review that you can find if you do a "search".

I think Spyderco has a real winner with the C3.
But there is one thing I don't like at all: the very sharp "peak" above the thumb-hole (the top of the thumb-ramp).
It was way too sharp so I filed the tip off of my C3 so now it has a more rounded "hump" somewhat like the Delica.

Good luck,
Allen.

I, also, bought a Centofante III recently. I liked it so much, I've bought an Endura SS and Calypso Jr. in the past few weeks, purely based on my enjoyment of the Centofante. The Centofante is still my favorite of the three Spydies...

This knife is VERY lightweight and has a beautiful grind. It was also the sharpest knife I've ever owned. It is comfortable in the hand and, with my hand size/shape, I don't have a problem with the thumbpeak.

I've been careful with my knife, too. Who knows, maybe too careful. It does have a very thin blade ~ PRO: Scalpel sharp, CON: Possibly a bit more delicate than, say, the Endura if dropped. The Centofante might hold up well as a hard use, who knows? I plan to use mine more like my Grandpa's slipjoint knives... an incredibly sharp, cutting tool with the finesse to be used with precision.

(Now... I really want a stainless ATR... :D )

One of my best friends uses a centofante and I personally would have bought one if he had not already had one. It's one of the only FRN spydercos that didn't feel really cheap in my hand. And of course, it's a rather beautiful knife. It fits my hand very well. One complaint, however, is that the knife, when closed, is rather long for its blade length.

As with every spyderco I've used, the action was smooth but very sluggish. According to spyderco fans, I seem to just have extraordinarily bad luck with spyderco actions, so your's may not be like that. But for me, it was absolutely impossible to flip the centofante, or any other spyderco, open.

Among the mid range EDC capable spydercos, the centofante and native are my favorites. But probably the centofante.

Oh, and I want an SS ATR too ;-)

AM - I must agree with you re: the action on the Centofante. My Endura and Calypso Jr are easily flippable but not so the Centofante. It is a bit stiff. I am hopeful that, with use and familiarity, it will loosen up a bit. Maybe mine is not a mainstream attitude but I am OK that it will just be broken in over time. Compounding the initial stiffness is the fact that the blade is pretty light with the mass distributed along a longer length than some other light but short blades (Calypso.)

BTW, AM, the Native you refer to is the original or Native III?

I bought a Centofante III a few weeks ago and absolutely love it. The blade is a bit thinner than I expected, but this along with the hollow grind make it a great slicer and very easy to get crazy sharp.

I used in camping to cut up a bunch of veggies and it worked like a charm.

As far as opening it, I have found that with a little practice I can now snap it open with relative ease. It is pretty stiff though, and the blade is pretty light so it is harder to flip open than other knives I have. It can be done though.

All in all, a great knife, and at under $50 a total steal. One of the best values out there IMO.

I have one an like it alot. In fact it is my current edc. When new mine was not very smooth but a drop of Balistol fixed that. Now the action is great. After having move the clip to tip up it is also very fast from pocket to hand.

Due to its thinness this is a realy good cutter and the VG10 blade take a nice sharp edge and is not hard to resharpen.

Besides I find the handle very comfortable and the design just looks nice. Even f it is only Zytel.

I've been eyeing one for a while now and broke down and ordered it last week :) Heard too many good things about it. Bought a Dragonfly and Bryd Meadowlark to keep it company during the trip to my house :D
