Anyone tried this out? I love the DMT Aligner, but it doesn't polish enough. I've been thinking of getting a Spyderco ceramic that'll fit the clamp and use it instead. Are there any Spyderco (or other high-grit) hones I can use for this purpose?

Any photos/reviews of edges finished by Spyderco stones would be nice too-thanks!

You can use the DMT Aligner clamp with ANY stones or abrasives. Set the stone or sandpaper on the table, run the clamp's guide bars on the table top along side the stone with the blade on the abrasive.

That's how I use mine. But if you're starting off with the stones made for the Aligner, then you're going to have to do something to compensate for the difference in angle when going to the benchstones. A taller stone will give you a sharper angle while a shorter one will give you a more obtuse angle.

Not able to find one locally, and frankly speaking I'm not too impressed with all the need for "breaking in" when a ceramic will do the job right there and then. I would be open to trying one though, the results AFTER breaking in look well worth it.

Ceramic will give you a nice edge but it won't be shiny, you may need to use a strop as well.

The Dmt XX fine 3 micron/8000 grit should do the job.Otherwise get a strop.
