...are up for preorder at one of the "usual suspects" (=respected sellers)...

Now if I could find a pic of any proto of these two and more info (I heard the Chaparral is similar looking to the Sage?)...

I was going to link the picture of the Chaparral from the knife center blog, but they seem to have taken down that blog entry.

Anyway, it's based on the Sage series, basically a "mini sage" with a backlock. It looks like a smaller version of the Sage I, with twill CF and a mid backlock with no Boye dent rather than a liner lock. It's in S30V, with blade stock a full mm thinner than the Sage series. Apparently it's coming around late spring (but who knows the actual date).

My name is the first and only name on the pre-order list right now. I can't wait for this one!

I found that if you do a google image search, you can find the picture from SHOT show that KC posted on their blog.

Thanks for the info!

I had the knifecenter blog page bookmarked too, but of course got a 404 message...

Right behind you, Big Guy! I've been hearing rumblings about a late spring release. The price at $110 is certainly reasonable...

so.... pretty much it's a native... :foot:

Aside from the mid-backlock, it's no more like the Native than the Sage is IMO. True, the shape is similar (Sal based the Sage on the Caly 3 and Native), but it still has a different blade shape (Native has no thumb ramp), different choil shape, more smoothed out ergos, and the Chaparral has a blade length of 2.75", so it's much smaller than the Native which is 3.125.

It seems like it will be an awesome size and design for a of "gentleman's" folder that's capable of much more, and I'm really looking forward to carrying it in my swanky dress pants, and slicing up a storm!

I'm REALLY looking forward to a proposed slip-it version! It'll be like a perfect design to slip-it-ify! Kind of like a Sage-Urban hybrid.
